Crying but tears only in one eye...

    Has anyone seen this before?

DD currently has a nasty cold and has been crying all day (seriously). Both eyes tear up but the left one REALLY tears up - much more than the other. And can tear up when the right one doesn't. At firt I thought it might be conjunctivitis because one of the bubs at Mothers Group had it - but there are no other symptoms...

    Anyone seen this? Any ideas?

    TIA

    MG

Could it be a blocked tear duct?

In which one? The right one hence less tears? Or the left hence contant tearing? Could be from sinuses I suppose... but her nose is running like the rain from the clouds....

Id say blocked in right eye... and its pushing all the extra tears to the left. Could be sinuses too....perhaps try some salty water...i know they say use that for conjuntivitus, but as a new born Chels had something similar and a nurse told me it was a blocked tear duct and salt water 3 times a day would help fix it.

    ETA:
Massaging the tear sac once a day
ocasionally helps to open the sac. To
apply pressure, place a finger under the
inner corner of the infant’s eye next to
the nose, and roll the finger over the
bony ridge while pressing down and in
against the bony side of the nose.

I wouldn't stress too much MG, Zander has only just started crying tears this week at 27 months & not really all that much either. We stressed about it at 6 months, then 12 months, then 18 months before being told it was normal, for him. He produces tears otherwise he'd have conjunctivitis all the time from the eyeball being too dry. So for Zander it's a case of the tears being there, just not coming out when he cries.

Maybe only one of Abbey's ducts have opened so far & the other just has to catch up? Though if you are worried about it, get her checked out by a Dr JIC.

Thanks Sarah. That's interesting about Zander! Abbey's eye has cleared up and they are both tearing the same now. I think it must have just been a blockage from her cold. I guess it was a case of everything just happening at once for the poor mite.
