Yeah, I used to get that all the time with ds, even with Huggies. Seems to not happen so much now he's older.

And maybe put off any potential Googling of bad nappy chemicals till you're a bit more rested, less likely to panic and not so prone to sleep derpivation-induced guilt just a thought...

I agree, I think you could spend your whole life in a state of permanent panic and stress if you googled everything!

well i'm sure people said the same thing about cigarettes 50 years ago (don't ask questions, you'll only worry yourself).

i'd rather be making an informed decision than not

my baby rlies on me advocating for her, making decisions on her behalf

A fair point Gigi. I was just thinking, with a newborn baby, now is probably not the time for kafer to get stressed and worry about what the nappy is made of. i think keeping the nappy changed often, making sure there enough of them in the house and sleeeeeeeep would be higher on her priorities- leave the environmental and social activism till at least the 6 week point

Sorry, i'm sure you can tell, baby stuff being safe for babies, is something i am passionate about.

it was not my intention to scare or upset a mum of a newborn, who is prolly operating on zilch sleep right now.

i get very emotional when i think about newborns, i want to protect them all.

i also think pregnant women/new mums get a whole heap of brainwashing thrown at them, so hard to sort thru it all at that time.

i should have toned it down, i do apologise. i stand by what i said (content) but my way of expressing, was too full on, i can see that now.

Im with Gigi on this one.
The crystals are the absorbent part of the nappy usually coming through the nappy because the nappy is so full. So simply changing it earlier will solve the problem.
However, the chemicals in those crystals is not healthy, no matter what the nappy company tells you, so avoid them when you can, if you use disposable nappies. They are the same chemicals they used to use in tampons until they were banned from being linked to toxic shock syndrome. The only way to prevent them altogether is to use cloth nappies.

So dont be overly scared, just change the nappy more often while bubba is weeing so much!! lol

I've had this happen with Huggies nappies on three occassions. Twice I contacted the company via email and they simply sent me a stock standard apology letter and replacement pack of the nappies affected. The third time I was away and no access to email. I always word my email so as not to sound accussing or blameful - just informing them they have had a defective batch
