hi all, starting to worry about DD2, she's 16months old and not looking close to walking.
she can pull herself up and cruise furniture but can stand on her own (without holding onto anything) and i'm starting to wonder if i should take her to see someone?
She smart mentally, knows lots of words and knows what we're talking about when we play with her, but moving doesnt seem to be her strong poiint. she was 14.5 months old when she started crawling traditionally (not commando) and only about 3 weeks ago worked out how to get herself into a sitting position.
Any advice or 'thats normals' would be appreciated

I know my nephew didn't even start crawling until he was 17 months, and walking was a few months off that - so it can be normal to not have started walking by now.
DS and DD1 both walked at 15.5 months - so thats only 2 weeks difference to your DD
DH heard from someone (a podiatrist I think?) that kids will only start walking when their feet have flattened out... are hers flat on the bottom?
well, at DS' 12month MCHN visit she told me that starting to walk is very 'normal' anywhere from 9-18 months. it also sounds like your DD has spent lots of time working on her vocab over the physical things. my DS walked at 12 months but at 18.5months still only says about 10 words.
i always think that it's cool to get stuff checked out if it's worrying you - just for peace of mind. but she sounds perfectly gorgeous to me
DS1 starting walking at almost 17 months, and didn't crawl properly until he was past 12 months. His strong point has always been speech, not gross motor skills. A friend of his walked even later than him, and he is a very clever boy, just walked 'late'.
If you're really concerned you could see someone, but you've probably got a couple of months until you really need to worry
DS1 did not start walking till 21 months!!!!!!! He rolled everywhere and then comando cralwed until he started properly crawling at 13 or 14 months.
He pulled himself up from about 17 months.
My DS did not start crawling till he was 15 months old, and only started walking on the 1st December last year when he was 18 months.
He did however bum shuffle from around 14 months.
Each baby is different and and am sure in time your DD will take off and you won't know what hit you
I agree with pp. She sounds delightful and like she has been putting energy into other areas of development. They can't do everything at once. I have also been told by CFHN that they don't 'worry' until the child is at least 18 months old and not walking but there would still be a small percentage of kids who don't walk by 18 months but are still 'normal' and get there in their own time. DS took a while to get moving too and I had my CFHN talking about seeing a physio but I actually think she was being over cautious etc.
I think if you're worried (even if only a little) then definitely take her to see someone. You'll have another bub in the house soon and it might be worthwhile getting an opinion or two now before life gets (more) crazy again. It might be just a case of getting some ideas of different games to play with her to help her with her gross motor development.
thanks girls, i think because we were so spoilt with DD1 walking b4 12 months that its been a bit of a shock that DD2 still isnt going. she wants to go, she'll walk holding DF's hands, but not mine little devil.
When she stands her feet are flat but when she's sitting, on her belly or crawling her toes are curled. i've tried shoes (proper fitted ones) but it didnt make much of a difference.
