    Oh no, how very scary

I don't think that collar bones are particularly difficult to break, but I am hoping that isn't the case for your little man :hugs:

I am glad that they were able to come home, and I hope you get some clear answers this morning with the x-ray. It can be so tricky prioritising health cover, hopefully you can find a way to maintain the ambo cover, JIC.

I hope you eventually got a bit of sleep overnight as well and you were up in the wee hours!
    Take care
    xxoo

DS1 broke his collarbone about 7weeks ago. He was jumping on our bed and I asked him to sit down then I said let's go get you some lunch and he rolled of the bed longways and landed so softly didn't think he would cry or be hurt etc and yep it was broken so it can happen very easily, confusing though if he was fine going to sleep and woke up screaming! Maybe it is something around the collarbone or is there something in his room he could have fallen off, bedside table etc but he thinks he would be in trouble if he said so??

I hope the X-ray is clear and that it is just a minor sprain or something from sleeping funny on it

BTW, public hospital to public hospital is free, but if you get trasnferred from a public to a private hospital then you have to pay for the ambulance.

Thanks everyone for your concern and support

Its definitely fractured. The xray showed it pretty clearly, its straight down, not all the way through though.
The doctor said that it should heal completely but didnt give us any indication of how long etc - he has a collar and cuff sling on but again not sure how long to keep it on - I know for plaster its 6-10 weeks normally. About to call the hospital again.

He is being very good all things considered, but hes not happy he cant ride his scooter or do all the things he'd normally do, with just one arm. At least its not his favoured hand I guess that is a plus.

    Awww bubba little one, ouchies!!

I wonder how he did it?

Bone's are generally set within 6 weeks, and the hard thing with a collar bone is keeping the arm in the sling, at least if you say that the more he takes it out, runs around with it or tries to use it the longer it will take to heal

Big Hugs for your little man and I hope he recovers quickly.
    Take care xxoo

I'm glad he's pretty okay. I had a slight panic and thought of meningitis when you mentioned his neck so I am really actually very glad it's a bone! Hope he recovers quickly and is able to be patient and stay amused as he heals. xo

I think it happened yesterday afternoon, i remembered this morning that he was hit by one of those two person swings on a swing set - he was standing up and the other chiled was on the swing and it knoecked him over, but he didnt seem too bad and was fine for the rest of the day, bedtime etc. But as the triage nurse said once he went to bed and his body relaxed and put pressure on it sleeping, thats when hes noticed the pain.

My brother broke both his collarbone's a number of times when he was young - and at least on one occasion, mum (who is a nurse!) didn't realise until the next morning, because he wasn't in pain when he first did it - so don't feel bad for not noticing! I think for some kids, its a really easy bone to break and they often don't realise at first.

Poor little fella. He will get used to only having use of one arm soon enough.
