Jack is going through what I'm calling a "questions phase". All day he asks "what is it" "what is that for" "where are we going" etc etc. Well, just now he floored me. We were driving home with a setting sun and the sky was red and purple. Jack said "the sky is purple" then "the sunbow is out" and then asked me "how does the sun make the sky purple?". WT??? I wish I knew how to answer that for a 2yo. I said that the setting sun sometimes reflects off the clouds and makes the sky go purple. He seemed happy with that. I guess I'm going to need a science degree before he turns 3 LOL!
Does anyone else have any stories to share? Or advice!!
Hi Melanie - my girls stump me with their questions alot of the time too. When i don't know the answer, I usually tell them we'll look it up on the internet.
That sure is a very scientific question for a 2 year old to be asking isn't it!!! I wonder what he'll be asking you when he turns 3!!!
If you don't know the answer you can always use it as an oppurtunity to ring Grandad, Aunt Polly or anyone else who might know and build some relationships. Or as an oppurtunity to teach him how to research and learn things - go on a trip to the museum together to find out or go to the library or even look it up online.
Yasin keeps asking why is it up? About everything..... the ceiling, the trees, the sky, the clouds, the planes..

Very clever young man then.. I love how they ask so many questions (even though it does get tiring) they learn so much..
When my boys ask me questions I answer with as proper answers as I can and if myself or DH can't answer we say lets google it or ring nanny, poppy grandma ect..
and to add,. My mum gets a kick out of it when the boys ring her to ask her questions
Angus asks me where people are going (I tell him they are going to the shops...) and "why is that man driving a red car?" (Because there was no blue paint left ) It goes on and on some days
We were in the car when Erin (then aged 5) asked me how do babies get in your tummy? I though OMG I don't want to deal with this one right now so I said that we'd ask daddy. Her answer "Don't you know?"
One of my Year 1 class, when we were standing ready to go into the ANZAC service at school, looked up at me and said "Mrs Mac can boys marry boys?" I nearly choked!! Completely out of the blue!
I always try and explain things in ways kids can understand. And it makes it easier for them to ask less questions LOL...
Explaining rain was always my favourite, we'd always get out the kettle and watch the steam collecting on the cupboard and how the little droplets of moisture would fall off...
I'll also go post now a fave website for us in the websites forum... I'm sure it will come in handy
I usually go to the internet as well, it is a saviour! We have a nightly routine where the girls get to ask me one more question before they go to sleep and I get some really tricky ones! Chloe asked me what is behind the clouds, Jasmyn told her that God was behind the clouds. Ah, Catholic Primary Schools, they certainly teach them the facts!! Good luck...it only gets harder the older they get, start your science degree now!!
This thread has given me a much needed chuckle! Kids are great! Alittle boy I used to lok after once asked me how the universe got made! Neither myself nor his parents are of the religious persuasion so I just told him that unfortunately I didn't know and that even the cleverest people in the world don't really know. Not something you can Google either lol !
