DS has slept on his side since he was 4 days old. We would roll up a little towel and tuck it behind him and one in front of him so that he couldn't roll onto his belly.

everyone finds different positions comfortable. but like some PPs said, invest in an angelcare monitor (they are worth every cent),so if he does roll over, at least you have peace of mind.
personally,while he is still so teeny, i wouldnt put him down on his tummy,and i would put him back on his back if i saw he had rolled on to his tummy. i guess im just paranoid. have you tried wrapping him to prevent him from rolling over?
All my kids started out sleeping on their sides, with something to stop them rolling onto their bellies, ie, rolled up blanket etc.
My older girls were fine on their sides, but DS & DD3 are tummy sleepers. DS from 4 or 5 months, when he started rolling himself that way & DD3 days from early on since she was refluxy, & nights for a little while now (can't remember exactly).
My sister was born with severe asthma/allergy problems & could not sleep on her back. She was safer on her belly.
A friend almost lost her DD1 when she brought up some gunk on the morning she was born & choked on it, turning blue...
I know the SIDs guidelines in & out, but I don't feel right knowing my bub could choke on vomit. They were always side sleepers as newby's for that reason...
