Question DS has a cough and snotty nose should I be worried?

DF has had the flu for a fortnight now and is only just starting to look like he's getting better. Heachache, snotty, sore throat, aching and coughing his lungs up.

The last few days DS has been a little snuffly and a tiny cough but today he is really blocked up and the cough seems to be getting worse and he's swallowing constantly like he has a sore throat.

He seems happy enough and he is still feeding so far and I don't "think" he has a temp but our $80 thermometor seems to be out because I am pretty sure I have a temp of more than 35 degrees.

At what point should I worry or take him to the doc???

He is pretty little so I would take him in the next day or so just to get him checked out. He might need anti's for his throat or he may have an ear infection. You just dont know. Hopefully it is just a cold and he will get over it in a few days.

Sounds like a cold rather than flu so keep him warm, rub vicks on singlet and make sure he is drinking lots.
If no improvement in 2 days then visit Dr.
Just advice...in my experience there is no point in getting antibiotics unless necessary and they can cause more harm then good when given before required.

If he seems happy & is feeding ok, then he should be ok.
If he feels warm, starts refusing feeds, or just seems irritable I'd get him checked out. They would more than likely be the things that showed a sore throat or ear ache. They refuse feeds as swallowing hurts so much with either an ear ache or a sore throat.
If his snot is green that is usually indication of an infection as well, & usually best to get checked.

Sounds like a cold to me. But if you want to take him to the dr's, I say take him.

Re the cough though, everytime DD gets a runny nose, the next day (or couple of days later) she develops a really nasty sounding cough. We always get it checked out and we are always told that it's just from her snotty nose, making it's way down the back of her throat. That could be whats happening to your DS.

    Thanks Everyone ...

I think it's just a cold too and personally don't want to take him to the Dr. where all the sick people congregate - we also have a hell of a lot of swine flu cases in our area

I called the 132229 helpline and they said as long as he's happy and feeding to leave him be so I guess thats what I'll do unless he starts to get worse.

    Thanks
