Well our little man is 4 weeks old and he still has extra fluid on one side of his scrotum. The nurse told me it's normal and would disappear over time, but does anyone know ho long? It just looks so painful for the little guy!
Not sure if I am posting in right section here either!
Renee, it is totally normal for your little mans scrotum to be still swollen. It usually takes a little while for them to go down.
You have your 6 week check up soon, so I would get your gp to check them out then, just to make sure that there isn't an over abundant supply of fluid happening.
It is normal for everything to be swollen for a while after the birth in both girls and boys.
My DS had a hydrocele (fluid retention on scrotum) for a few months. My Doctor said it wouldn't cause pain, and should subside within a few months. Well, it went away by about 10 weeks from memory.
Your GP will check his scrotum as part of the 6 week check, I'm sure he's fine!
My DS also had a hydrocele, but unfortunately for us his didn't go down and it required day surgery. We did have it investigated when he was a baby, but was told that if it was still like it at 18mths old to go back, it was and he had surgery in March 2006.
Just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't keep getting bigger.
Thanks for that ladies Will keep an eye on it and get dr to check it out. I'm glad it's not hurting him at least Just hope it goes away on it's own now, I'm sure it will, it's just me being paranoid!
Sebastian also has a hydocele - the nurse at the Early health clininc said they can take up to a year or longer to go away. In a small number of cases they need surgery as Kathryn said, but there's nothing to worry about at this stage.
Oh ok, thanks is it normal for it to be slightly blue? I'm assuming its becuz of too much fluid? I'm seeing my dr thisarvo so I'm going to get her to check it out.
