I have recently started giving DS 1 solid feed (just EBM & Farex at the moment). He is really happy to take the food & opens his mouth as the spoon approaches, swallows, etc. But, he keeps trying to put his fingers in his mouth while I am feeding him (he used to do this in the early days with BF'ing too). I tried giving him his own spoon to hold on to - but he kept shoving that in his mouth as well. I also tried giving him the spoon with the food on it, but he's not quite coordinated enough to consistently get it in his mouth (last night was a messy feed!!).
No suggestions here, short of hand cuffing his hands behind his back :-)
I think this is pretty normal. DD used to do that, too. I used to just wait for her to take her fingers back out of her mouth and then quickly smuggle a spoon full into her mouth. Or try and fit it in just before the fingers (or her spoon) got there...
Good luck with the solids. It's an exciting new world for them.
hehe i just have to say my son does this too and he thinks its great fun... he does take his fingers out of his mouth when he see's the spoon coming.. but as soon as the food is in his mouth so are his fingers.. there isn't much you can do really, its just a stage they go through.. i tend to just go with the flow and let him do it.. it will soon blow over and hey its pretty entertaining at times too.
