My sister gave me a few baby products that ar about 99% natural from Burts Bees. If you google it you'll find out more about it but I have used the buttermilk lotion for sensitive skin and it worked beautifully for my DD newborn milk rash. Only thing was It seemed to smell a little sour after it had been on her skin for a day (she was due for a bath anyway), maybe from the buttermilk content. Anyway worth checking out if you're after natural products IMO.

What is the usual price for the Gaia products?

I have used the baby moisturiser for DD from the first week. I think it cost $11 or $12 for a 250ml bottle that we have hardly gotten into. I only use a tiny amount at a time.

I've recently bought the baby shampoo for $9.95 for 250ml and the baby body wash for $16.95 for 500ml. Both of which seemed reasonable for me, since the bottles will last for absolutely ages at the rate we use them.

Do you think that's a reasonable price? What do you pay? I'm not really used to buying stuff just for a baby, but I do want things that will be gentle on her sin, as far as possible.

We buy little innoscents and they actually reduced their price recently because the were in a position to be able to afford to (and their stuff smells lovely)

I've used Gaia in the past. I like the big bottle of moisturiser (still have heaps left from 3 years ago!) as a barrier cream now for face painting
Anyhoo, I have only been impressed by Moo Goo for product goodness and absolute value for money.
Natural Instincts seems to be quite diluted in base product more than 'active ingredient' and I never trusted it enough to buy it.

i also like it cos they sell one litre bottles of some products (like the handwash and hair products).
i find it hard to find some organic things in LARGER quantities.

Organic sunscreen is another biggie for me
expensive and i never see the organic ones in bigger, family sized containers.
Most sunscreens use parabens (causes skin irritations in mnay people), even the one i got from the Anti Skin Cancer Council had parabens in it. Bilby got a rash from it. that's what set me off looking for organic ones, and fidning out about parabens.

Once you look for the word PARABEN or METHYL PARABEN on the back of products, you go thru your makeup drawer, your bathroom cabinet, you discover, SO MANY everyday items you use, have PARABENS in them. i did a huge chuck out of those, it's improved our skin (no longer itching).

Yeah, the ecostore washing detergent is good. (mild enough to wash MCN in too).

i see their baby stuff in the Woollies baby aisle.
Ecostore baby shampoo, bath stuff and moisturiser. and bar soap too.

we've tried the Ecostore shampoo and the bath stuff (you squirt a bit into the bath when you run the bath). very nice so keep buying them.

but if the Avado (Coles) or Gaia products are on special that week, i will get whichever is the best value.

there is another brand with Cherub in the title too, saw it at a "green" shop once. bubble bath WITHOUT sls in it. (for kids).

Celsie, I recommend you email them and ask them about it. There's always a chance that they brought out a new size which is supposed to be cheaper, but the shop didn't change the label or put the wrong product in that spot on the shelf. It would be a shame for the manufacturer (who do make great products!) to be publicly criticised for a mistake made by a retailer.

I'm not saying that this is the case, but if it was me, I'd want to check it out first.

That's what I thought at first, thus why I checked their website, to see how much they were selling it for, $10.00. It was $9.95 for 100ml in Coles. We used to pay $10.95 for 250ml. I love their products and was thrilled when they became readily available in the supermarkets. Not living in the city, normally if I need organic anything, I have to buy online and then you're hit with additional charges for postage. I would never make unfounded accusations about an otherwise fantastic company.

Hi Tenar! We use all their products from the moisturiser to the baby shampoo. The moisturiser last forever. I think we've still got our original bottle. The soothing lotion (nappy cream) however last no time at all in our house. Having two little bottoms to change, and it gets used every nappy change (prevention is better than cure), a bottle will only last about a week, so 100ml would only last a few days. I just can't afford $20 a week for nappy cream, especially only having one income, things are tight enough as it is.

We're a moo goo family too. We use their shampoos, creams and soaps. Their products seem quite expesive, but they do last a lot longer, so it works out okay. I bought a tub on their msn cream, as a nappy cream, but found it to be too thin, but it does work really well on rashes etc.

- parabens (cheap preservative that causes many to have skin irritations)
- SLS (just to make more bubbles)
- perfumes
- colours
that's all i can remember for now.

and for hand sanitisers, most have around 60% alcohol! very flammable, and can you imagine what would happen if a baby licked it? hello, alcohol poisoning. there is an australian brand called HANDS FIRST that makes a zero alcohol hand sanitiser. i started buying it at woollies, now they don't stock it, so i go to the hands first site, and request the stockists for my postcode, go and buy it at a nearby chemist/healthfood shop. I feel safe having it around my child and my hands no longer go red raw. so it's a win win.

for disposable baby wipes, the only supermarket ones i would consider safe are the Nature babycare ones. (the rest have propylene glycol as major ingredient, or SLS in the curash ones).

Thanks for popping in and giving some great advice Gigi! I've tried the Avado nappy lotion and I really liked it for it's price, although it was a little thin. Unfortunately, our Coles doesn't stock it anymore. =(

Sunscreens - Caeleb is allergic to most sun screens, even organic ones. Someone on here (think it may have been Mantaray) suggested Wotnot and it is brilliant. It's very expensive, but a little does go a long way.

That's really shocking about Natural Instincts. I've been using their face products, thinking that they were "safe", now I'm just really ****ed off. Why do these companies think it's okay to do this? Grrr...

Creams in general. I got the hand lotion. They have stockists everywhere,, it seems (thanks Gigi! ) good value & they smell beautiful.

I tried Natural Instinct once & just didn't like it much...that's just me though...

I bought MooGoo scalp lotion for DDs cradle cap. I have seen a few people mention the Infant scalp cream but they don't have it on their website & the 2 stockists I have found here don't have it either... does anyone know if it's the same? maybe they just took off the 'infant' part?

I wouldn't want to spend $20/week on nappy cream either! Mostly we use nothing (lots of bare-bum time, though), but occasionally some sudocrem. But I think that DD isn't that prone to nappy rash, like some are.

If it helps, the online pharmacy I use (google pharmacyonline and you'll find it) has the "Gaia Natural Baby Skin Soothing Lotion 250ml", for $10.95. They usually take a week or 10 days to deliver - not the fastest, but if you know what you want ahead of time it's a good way to get chemist stuff quite cheaply.
