Giving DD a queen bed and eventually sharing with sibling?

Ds1 has a queen, has been in it since about 2, at the moment he's in it with his dad lol, but hoping to transition ds2 into it, so dad can get a comfy bed. It was our old bed and didn't want to throw it out, it's on a floor base too so low to the ground. Both boys just like to sleep next to someone so it's perfect enough for 2 whether that's mum, dad or each other. I think it's a great idea.

DS1 at about 4 when we gave him our old double with a door nailed to the side (& a bus painted on the door). When PIL visit they sleep in that bed, DS1 sleeps in the race car bed that was handed down to DS2 and DS2 sleeps on a mattress on the floor next to the race car until he wakes & comes in with us. DH should have taken my advise & made the door removeable as PIL have difficulty getting in the bed.

Its great 'cause DH can take him back to his bed & lie down with him if he wakes during the night (& I have DS2 in our bed). I'd like the boys to sleep together in the double but at the moment they tickle & kick each other too much.

My older boys shared a double for a couple of years also. We bought bunks that had a double on the bottom & they slept down there by choice.

Yep DD has one. She hated the cot, so turfed it to the roof space and gave her the guest (we have none!) bed! Put bed guards on either side, and as its quite high taught her to get down backwards. When she calls out in the night, I go in and can comfortably stay there.

Just be aware that it will be much colder in a bigger bed. I thought about a big bed for some of my kids to share but my mother put me off because she had to share and hated it.

DD started sleeping on a queen mattress when he was 8 months old but it was too uncomfortable for me as I co-sleep. We bought him a really good mattress which is a double and dh built a frame that lifts it up off the floor just enough to get the air under it so that the mattress can breath. So he's been sleeping on that since 9 months with the view that we can use that mattress in a bunk bed which has a double on bottom and a single on top It's been fantastic because is super comfortable for me and there will be no transition for ds to make when he's older. To start with we were worried that he would roll out but the bed is in the corner of the room and we put pillows all around the bed just in case. But he's never fallen out and we have a video monitor so even if he looked like he was going to we could go in a move him.
