Hair pulling/scratching/biting... is this normal?

It sounds like she's frustrated in love lol. My dd gets overwhelmed with emotion sometimes too when she's trying to hug and kiss ds...it's like the love is too much and love turns to a tight squeeze pretty quickly.

Hair pulling and biting I have never tolerated, and if my dd did that in my arms she'd get plonked on the floor until she could show me gentle hands.

How do you normally react when she hurts you?

That's what I do - I put her straight down and say "No pulling hair - that hurts mum" in a stern voice. She doesn't seem to get it though.
