We did the same thing as pixie- on DS's first birthday we took the matress out of the cot and put it on the floor. He was flately refusing to sleep in the cot and owuld screma when i went to put him in there!! And now he is happy as larry and he is so cute when he wakes up from his nap and comes happily out of his room instead of crying in a cot!! He is sleeping much better too!!! And its easier to go in and comfort him if he does happen to wake too early and be a bit unsettled- i can just go and sit or lay with him and its all good!!

Yep we've done the same as pixie. Jazz sleeps AMAZINGLY on the mattress on the floor. All night in fact! She also gets herself up in the morning and plays (we shut her bedroom door but her room is a safe space) for a while before wanting me to open the door for her. Jazz used to wke herself banging on the cot bars at night, and would scream waking up 'behind bars' I guess you could say.

Montessori do recommend co-sleeping, and then, when you move them out of your bed, bypassing the cot, as it is seen as a restriction. They recommend a method know as the "Floor Bed" which is just that a mattress on the floor. Some babies WILL sleep better knowing they aren't closed in. Jazz certainly does. We were worried at first that she'd see it as an invitation to play all night but it seems to do the opposite. Because she knows she CAN get in and out at her own free will, she does seem to need to. She also falls asleep without booby at night. We just go in, lay down, and she lays down and falls asleep, often immediately.
Google it if you want to read more.

Yep - same here! We went from co-sleeping straight to toddler bed which he can climb in and out of by himself. A mattress on the floor or the trundle just might be the ticket for a good nights sleep all round. I think give it a go - give it at least 2-3 weeks to let him settle in and see how it goes. If it doesn't work you can always go back to co-sleeping for a while longer.

    Good Luck!

We skipped the cot too. Because Yasin hated it we put a mattress on the floor for him and Imran moved straight from our bed to a very low bed.

I'm glad I read this thread! DS is cosleeping with us too at the moment and he LOATHES the cot! It was seriously the biggest waste of money and space and is also just there for show, it's never used I guess we will try a mattress on the floor too once he starts to walk, but until then he is in the bed with us!

Hope he takes to the trundle Kim
