How do I protect DD from the taps in the bath?

DD is completely fixated with the taps and spout over the bath. She uses them to pull up to stand and then fiddles with them or uses them as a handle to reach the windowsill next to the bath. I got sick of trying to stop her from doing this so just removed the hot tap handle once the bath was run and then just left her to it (obviously closely supervised). Was hoping that like everything else she plays with heaps that the novelty would wear off and she's get bored with them eventually.

So far... no good. She's still obsessed! And worse still, tonight she slipped and bumped the corner of her eye on the spout. Poor lil' one has a split in the skin and will probably have quite the 'shiner' tomorrow. So very very lucky it wasn't a millimetre to the right or it would have done her eye far more serious damage.

So there's the vent. Here's the question...

Is there anything you can buy or rig up to stop kids playing with the taps? I'm obviously worried both about head injuries like the one incurred tonight, and also about her managing to turn on the hot tap and scalding herself. Any ideas???

I'm sure there are some things that Dreambaby make to protect the taps etc in the bath. I've seen them in safety sections of baby stores etc but not entirely sure what they are called.

DD was the same... i just added more toys to the bath.

Mate, google 'bathtub spout cover' and the first one you come across is on a site called Btiz for kids or something and that looks pretty good - doesn't have an interesting pattern on it or anything either (unlike some others) which might draw her attention TO the tap.

I have a blow up spout cover that I got from either K mart or Big W I think it was.
It doesnt really fit snuggly over but has saved his scone a few times from big knocks.
It was only a few dollars so check it out next time your there.

Thanks ladies. Will have a bit of a search online and at Kmart etc.

So far distraction, toys etc. isn't working. She got the COOLEST bath toys for Christmas. I want to play with them!! But nooooo... standing up is currently the best thing ever!

The others are right, there are inflatable covers for spouts I've seen around. Does she really like bathtime? If she stands up, can you just pull her out as a consequence? Tell her to sit down, then put her back in, and if she stands pull her out again?

    Good luck with it!
