How do they seem to know?

How do these toddlers seem to know what junk food is if they hadn't tried it before?!
Like my DD can be fussy with her food. But if she sees a chip or a biscuit around she wants it, even if she'd never tried it before. Anything healthy, no interest.
If she sees me eating something she'll only be trying to climb up on me to get it if its junk.
Went to Maccas yest and she was desp to get my fries, never had them before. Yet when I get out fruit she couldn't care less!
How do they just seem to know?

Maybe it's the look of satisfaction when you're eating them. Yum!!!!

Hmmmmmm..... maybe someone else is giving her some on the sly?!

OR maybe there is some chemical that we can smell without realising we're smelling it, and they put in the food to make people want it??

Dunno... could someone else be giving her chipies! (ILs perhaps... dunno how yours are but I wouldn't put it past mine!)

I reckon it's the smell. Nina is the same, when it comes to chips or something, she has to have them.

Maybe we should all be eating fruit and when they see us eat it they might want it too .... Yeah right...

Babies can read body language. They sit and observe people eating their chips, looking at the chips even when they have a mouthful desiring more. They can see other children reaching for chips, fighting over chips, protecting their chips from other people! LOL Plus I guess they can smell them but I think it's more the body language that we exhibit while eating them. If we did the same thing while eating vegies they would be similarly desirous... infact i make more of a fuss (a positive fuss) over a bowl of vegies "mmmm" than I do chips... i often deliberately make a negative remark about chips like "uch, too salty" just to create a bit of balance. My kids love their vegies so it seems to be working.... they also like chips... but don't go crazy over them... they'd prefer a sushi handroll if given the choice.

We are "programmed" to crave high calorie fatty food, back from the time when we were hunter gathers and food was scarce. Hot chips fit this category perfectly, great in times of famine, but not in times of plenty.
