How do you measure formula?

Ok, so might be a rather weird and random type question.....a 'disagreement' with another person has made me rethink.

When you measure formula - say it says 200ml water with 4 scoops of formula - do you consider that bottle to be 200ml or (as I have always) measure it from the height it ends up once mixed. A 200ml bottle once formula is added ends up say 250ml. So I call that 250ml and if the child drinks half, I say they've drunk 125ml.

Whereas the other person says if the bottle has 125ml left in it, the child has drunk only 75ml.

Am I wrong? This is how I have always done it, for 10 years or more of making up bottles and now someone's questioned it, I'm second guessing myself....

The other person counts it as 200ml regardless of the formula making it far more full.....or are they right?

If they counted it as 200ml then they aren't including the actual formula in their calculations of what bubs is drinking?! I find it quite odd but I guess it can be a matter of opinion...

The solution is made in 200ml of liquid, which measures 250ml when made up.

Chemistry teacher says 250ml of solution. So if after drinking it is at 125ml, child has drunk 125ml of solution.

Yes, once prepared, with all elements added, it's 250ml. Water is just one of the two 'ingredients' in the formula solution. Whoever you were talking to is very wrong. How weird!

I'm kinda with the other person, however I never really say to myself 'DD has drank 125ml, but more she has 125ml left'... I don't really pay attention to the made up amount, just that it started at 200ml

Then again, I've never thought about this situation until now lol

If you don't add that extra 50ml, over a space of a day, your child is having the equivilant of an extra whole bottle, isn't it?
