How to get DS to sleep? He just wants to stand up in his cot!
Please help with ideas, I am starting to get soooo frustrated!
Though I am thrilled that ds is starting to get around and is pulling up on everything I just can't seem to get him to sleep anymore! I have always put him down awake in his cot and left him to do his own thing, but now I have up to an hour of him pulling himself up and then screaming cos he is stuck!
My only strategy so far has been to go in there and lie him back down each time, trying not to interact with him. I usually give him a minute or so to see if he can sort himself out, but he doesn't seem to be able too.
After an hour I am so over it I just get him back up again, and usually let him fall asleep in the pram or car, but because we are moving I desperately need these sleep times to pack!
does he yell and scream or can he play with some toys and just fall asleep that way? Thats what i did with my ds 2 3/4 when he was that age and still do TBH
Thanks guys, I will give a toy a go and see if it helps! He is just keen on getting up and walking around the edge of the cot, but is so tired he can't seem to work out how to sit down so he screams instead until I rescue him!
DD went through a stage like that, she would just keep standing up and then eventually start crying because she couldn't work out how to get back down again. I started by going in the first couple of times and lying her back down while saying to her it was sleep time and she needs to lie down. Then if she kept doing it, just walked in and without making eye contact or talking to her would just lay her back down again.
Now if she stands up (which rarely happens) I just walk in and ask her to lie down and she usually does. It will get better, so I would keep persisting with what you are doing and he will eventually get the message!
Agree with ss_storm here - my DD did the same thing even in a sleeping bag & it was just persistence of lying her back down in the sleep position - eventually she got it. It did take a while though - maybe a couple of weeks (sorry, it was nearly 4 years ago)
Woohoo! Some success tonight, I put him to sleep with his sheep which he finds very amusing and only had to lay him down once! I will see how he goes tomorrow during the day!
