how long did your bubs cord stump take to heal?

DS2s dropped off after about 5-6 days, but what;s left is taking its time healing. There is still parts that are not dried out, and i dont know how they will, as his naval is half in and half out -- so the in parts never get any air on them and so are still a bit "goopy" instead ofdrying out and falling off.

Is it usual to take this long, I dont remember this happening with DS1

I can't remember how long exactly but DS's took ages. It was really goopy, as you described. I just kept putting BM on it, every nappy change (with clean hands of course ), and it did eventually clear up.

ETA My DS has a belly button like that, half in, half out. I guess that's why it takes longer for it to heal.

I think that BM really helps, and it certainly can't hurt . My MCHN was the one who told me to do it. I hope it all heals up soon

My sons took 14 days. Towards the end it went yukky like it started to smell and was a bit weepy, i thought it was infected but the doctor said it was healing fine.

Nate's was the same Ray. It smelled and was gross. I was cleaning it with EBM and clean water on a cotton bud.
There are no nerve endings in that part of the belly button, so it won't hurt him to clean it out.
    Nate's took agggges to heal.

OMG how gross are they! I hated changing nappies until it was all gone...ugh. Elijah's got smelly (don't remember Oskar's getting smelly) for I think about a week before it really started healing. I can't remember total time. I used warm salty water which I gently wiped over it with a clean cotton ball then dabbed dry. Seemed to heal really fast after that. I think it helps to dry it out?

DD's took more than two weeks for the main stump to to drop off, I forget exactly when it happened. Then the remaining scab took a while after that to completely dry out and drop off. It happened in several stages, the last only a couple of days ago (at nearly 4 weeks).

It looked pretty gross for a couple of weeks. There was a bit that was white and goopy, and for a while it was kinda greenish. I guess that the cut off tissue is actually decaying, so no wonder it's gross. But the MCHN said it was fine each time I asked, as did the doctor in the hospital, and it's all healed up now and no problems. So I guess it was normal for it to look all yukky like that. I ended up figuring that if she didn't look all red and inflammed around the site, then there was no infection and I shouldn't worry.

We didn't treat it at all with anything, other than rinsing with water when we bathed her, and making sure it got as dry as possible by patting it gently with cotton wool.

DS' stump fell off on day 3 and was perfect.
This time, DD's fell off on day 7 and left a gaping big hole!!!! It freaked me out a little.... We called several people and couldn't get a hold of anyone. In the end, we went to a chemist and the pharmacist called the hospital. We saw the midwives and apparently, what DD has is known as a granuloma. My MCHN had a look at it the next day and said it could continue to open and close (it's closed over but if DD exerts herself too much it will open up), and that it needs tobe checked at my GP appt. Apparently, they can use silver nitrate to sort of 'fuse' it together.... we'll see what the GP says about it anyway.
I'm just cleaning it when I can. Baths are a no no as I don't want to introduce anything into her body... so we are top and tailing. It's not weeping much though at the moment, which gives me a bit of confidence that it might be healing over bit by bit.

DD2 had a granuloma too - get the MHCN to check it and see if he has one. We got it treated with silver ntrate which did nothing so then liquid nitrogen which has healed it up. It took about 8 weeks to fully heal though with all of those treatments.

OK MCHN said to take him to the GP to get it checked, as she's not sure if its open or closed, but that shes seeing an increasing number like his lately? So I will make an appt to take him.
