How long did your child wear their amber teething necklace for?

Iain has worn his for ever. I use to put i ton his ankle / wrist when he was little little because it was too long but I have a different one now that sits just nice around his neck so that is where it stays.

I have often wondered if leaving it on would weaken it? As is they would get use to the level of "pain relief" Im not gaME TO TAke it off though. Iain is cutting molars & eye teeth atm & he is pretty sooky even with it on so hate to think what he would be like with out it.

My DS has to take his of for CC, and I do take it off for baths or showers at home, just to hopefully extend the life of it. But if he has a bath or shower elsewhere, or even swimming I leave it on. It is not too long so I don't need to take it off or put it around his ankle while he sleeps.

I like the look of the necklace, and DS loves wearing it (comes running when I ask if he wants to put it on! Very cute!) so I figure he can continue to wear it until it no longer fits!

We also get the surfer dude comments, and the vacant stares when you try to explain in laymans terms about the pain relief properties!! But I do believe they help with an even temperament and DS only just gets out of sorts when he is teething, not out of control. I definitely recommend them!

Balmain Gril- When i say leave it on i mean i never ever remove it from his neck. I am aware that it is a chocking hazard (why i got the lecture from the health nurse) but it's my choice that he wears the necklace.

Also if DS ever has it in his mouth i remove it and discourage it straight away. Most of the time it is under his clothing and he has no idea that it is there.

Was wearing it from about 5 months and he's now 12 months old

lilima, I get the same looks when I try to explain it to parents at work. The "yeah... right... *nutbag*" look LOL.

Jazz still wears hers, even though she's got all her teeth (except the 2yo molars). It helps with her mood. Shel and I both wear one too and notice the difference so we keep hers too We still take it off for bath/shower and then put it around her ankle at night, and then when we dress her we change it to her neck. Just what we feel comfortable with.

As far as it being a choking hazard, you can get them with fasterners/clips that pop open if pressure is exerted on them- I'm not sure where from, but I have heard of them.

I've observed DS pretty closely with his because it does not have that kind of clasp, and I came to the conclusion that it would be extraordinarily unlikely that he could get himself into a position where it would choke him- I mean, never say never because toddlers do get into extraordinary positions, but I would really be astonished. He would have to get something in between the necklace and his neck and pull very hard- and I think the necklace would probably break in those circumstances. I really don't worry about it.

I just ordered myself an amber bracelet- very excited!

Thanks Amber. Where did you order yours from? I looked on ebay, but not sure whether to trust that they're the real deal..

Skeetaboat - I got one for DS from amber bebe online. They are made specifically for young babies - have a plastic clasp that will pop open if pulled hard enough (and this has happened once with DS - well it was off and not broken). The beads are individually knotted on so if it does break somewhere along the necklace (not at the clasp) then the beads don't come off. It was about $40 I think but came with a guarantee etc. They also sell breastfeeding necklaces which you could wear. I know people with arthritis etc wear them too.

DS wears his all the time except for in the bath or swimming pool. We've only just started CC and so far they haven't asked him to remove it. We have noticed a big difference from the first tooth (without the necklace) the the next 3 teeth. He still gets unsettled but nowhere near as bad. Breastfeeding and panadol now work and the last tooth he cut without panadol at all! I plan to leave it on him until his teeth are all through. If it breaks, I'll be ordering another one quick smart!!

I've had the same reactions/comments as previously posted. I also get asked if it really works (with the implication being that it's just a placebo effect or all in my head!). Getting a bit sick of explaining (he's had it on a couple of months) so I'm thinking I might start playing with the *nutbag* reaction a bit LOL!
