i honestly do not think you have anything to worry about, but if you are still concerned maybe you should speak to a professional. this website may be useful for finding a speech pathologist in your area - Speech Pathology Australia - Home. my eldest son had about ten words in his repertoire at one but once he hit 18 months he was dishing out a new word everyday. hang in there!

    Not many.

    Mum
    mama
    mum mum mum
    Dad
    dad dad dad
    Bella (our dog)
hello (well we think that's what he's saying lol)
    bub bub bub bub

I think that's about it. He babbles a lot but who knows what he's trying to say.

My Jazz I think only said Dad, Mum, tata (as in bye bye) and I think she started picking up uh-oh at about 1 as well. She was babbling a lot and learning reflection in her babbling. Now that she's almost 17 months she's starting to have a bit of a word explosion though and I think she learns a new word every one or two days at the moment.
Your Jazz sounds perfectly normal for a 1 year old.

Sounds perfectly fine to me hun
DS only really says "mumma/mum" & "gollygollygollygolly" while his dummies in his mouth LOL He also does alot of babbling. He hasn't even really said "dada" yet (although ask XH & he swears he heard it once LOL)
I cant really remember DD's speach at this age (although I do have her first 5 yrs book, I might have a look out of curiosity!) I think she really took off with words somewhere around 12-18 months??
I'm not worried about DS's few words & you shouldn't be about Jazz's... it sounds like she's doing great with everything else!!!

Thanks everyone Feel better now. I've got Jazzy's birthday on the 9th amd I'm already worrying about 'comparisons' by some people...

We realised she was doing something else last night, when someone says 'hello' she waves. Not attempt to say hello PMSL but she starts waving like she's trying to take off hehehe. Had me in stitches at the Good Guys, she was in the sling and people were saying "oh, hello!" to her, and she'd start waving her arm off at them. Hehehehe funny little chicken.

I was going to ask about comprehension. Beth isn't a waver but she will do high-five and if you say "show that to mummy/ daddy" she will bring it to you.

Whatever a baby does or says at 1 yr is normal...can't compare them to other babies or have a 'standard' for what they should be doing...every baby is diff.
I know of a little boy who only began saying words we could understand at the age of 4 (gave his mum a heart failure as he starts big school next yr and she thought he would never talk).
I bet she understands heaps more then you think she does! Little monkeys hey?

DD understood heaps, but was only saying 3 words clearly at her 1st birthday. She babbled heaps though..

    Mumma
    Dadda
    Chester (my parents dog)..

Yes you will get comments, but hey, she understands a lot and seems really intelligent.. I just told inlaws that I am enjoying the peace and no backchat while it lasts..

They are all different, she'll be fine, before you know it those babblings will be full on words and then sentences.
    Mine went like this
DD1 has never shut up, lol it was like she was born talking!! at 12-13 weeks she started to follow me around the room with her head and say mum mum mum mum and she would also say daaaa, I kid you not, being my first baby I thought that was normal, turns out it wasn't, she was speaking short sentences when she was 10-13 months old and you could have a full on conversation with her at 18 months. Now at 13 it's hard to get a word out of her other than, Can I please have....., can you take me to......!!!!!! She was also walking at 8.5 months

DD2 Said Mumma and Dadda at around 5 months and not much more before 9m and at 12 months it was only a few more, her favourite was "ohhhhhhhh" and "look" "dog" "ta" and "no" and my fav was "numanumanuma" which I know isn't a word but I'd put food in front of her and that's the first thing she'd say. 18 months she could string 2 or three words together, like 'ta mummy" but didn't reall talk til she was just on 2. She didn't walk till she was 13 months although from 10 months she would stand unassisted, but just didn't move, I used to call her my meerkat (sp?)

DD3 never said a word til she was 6 months atleast and it was only da da da (little rubbish - after all I did for her) she'd say mum mum and ta at around 9 months but she would only use a word or two up til she was nearly 2 and even then she was nearly 3 before she could talk in sentences and now days at nearly 7 she doesn't shut up. She was 15 months before she walked, I did start to worry. but was reassured she was fine.

DD4 spoke at around 4 months the usual mum mum, dad dad and beebee (Brianna DD1) at 6m she did have quite a few words mum, dad, bee, dog, look, ta, no, but she would say tum ear (come here) I thought that was cute and peas (please) and num num and a few others, still at 12 months she had a whole range of words but no real sentence stuff, she was nearly 18 months before she'd string two or three words together. But by 2 she could speak short sentences. She walked at 12 months after standing and walking around furniture at 9 months.

DS (no.5) now you gonna think this is bad but I'm having trouble remembering Nathan milestones right now coz I've just filled my brain with his sisters, lol.......he was about 5 months when he started to talk, mum mum, dad dad, here, by 9 he added boo boo and dog, beezy, ta and a few others at 12 months he could say all his sisters names (without the clarity but we knew what it was)and milky milky boo boo, no touch, jump jump, by 18 months he could do short sentences, by 2 you could have a conversation with him. He walked at 11 almost 12 months......I think....hmmm

mmm I'm going to go back and check some old thread so I can get his milestones straightened out lol, I think I got it right, lol
