    Small lump on head

    Hi
I noticed the other day that my 3 mth old daughter has a small lump on the back of her head, about 4cms back from her ear. It feels soft like cartiledge or something, and I can kind of move it around a little bit. It is a little smaller than a pea.
I'm so worried about it. Do you know what it might be? Should I take her to the dr?
    Thanks.

Don't fret. My DD had exactly the same thing, behind her ear. I took her to doctors and MCHNs etc.. They said that it was cartilage/bone that the body hadn't absorbed and that it would disappear. I was always checking on it and then one day it disappeared. She was probably about 12-18months old. I thought she had cancer and conjured up allsorts of illnesses which she could possibly have.

My best bet would be to take her to the dr and just have it on her file, incase it doesn't go away, but i am sure it will.

    Don't fret

My DD had one of these too. Hers grew a bit during her first 12 months, and the Drs ran some tests etc and determined it was a dermoid cyst. Their recommendation was to remove it, as it would continue to grow. So she had it removed when she was two and a half under a General Anaesthetic.

She's fine Try not to worry, but do point it out during her next health check so you can keep tabs on growth etc

Ah I stressed so hard when I found this on my son when he was the same age!

Apparently it's very normal and nothing to worry about!

It was in the exact same spot you described and behind his right ear.

I had it explained that it is most likely a lymph gland - they don't move to down near the jawline til a bit later.

Just mention it at her next check - but please don't stress xxx

Thank you all so much for your replies. I feel a bit better now that I know it isn'i that uncommon, but I will get it checked out just to be on the safe side.
