    Cradle VS. Bassinette...?

Hi, further to the How long did your baby stay in the bassinette thread here, I'm interested in hearing from those of you who had their babies in cradles.

Are cradles much roomier than basinettes, did it mean that baby stayed in the cradle for longer? Last time round we kept DD in her cot in our room, but in this house there really isn't room for a cot in our bedroom. I'm thinking cradle is a good idea since 2-3 mths is a bit early (for me) to move baby to another room, but a cradle is obviously a lot smaller than a cot in terms of the space it takes up.

Any particular cradle recommendations/tips would be most appreciated.

Have you looked into a hammock?
Both my boys loved thier hammock - it's not too large and breaks down easily for travelling.
We used the amby hammock. Yasin took about a week to settle into it (he was about 2 months old when I got it) and Imran went into it from birth.

I think it really depends on how big bubs is when born. Jesse was born 8lb 9oz and 52cm, so he was quite big to start with. We did find the cradle good as during the day we could wheel it out to the lounge room and he could sleep there infront of us.. BUT he was only in it for only 6 weeks as he just got too big and during his sleep he would get out of his wrap and hit his arms on the rails, waking him up. The day we put him in his cot, he slept like a baby, literally! He just looked to be alot more comfortable.

We were given his cradle and am glad i didnt buy one as i dont really think its worth the money, well it wasnt in Jesse's case.

Darcy started rolling around 6 weeks and by rolling that meant the cradle rocked and she rolled further and banged into the side. So we just put her in the cot. It didn't fit in our room so the decision to move her to her own room was kind of made for us. I didn't really find a benefit with the rocking motion and it was definatley longer but not really wider than a bassinette IYKWIM? We've ditched the cradle and are getting a bassinette for the next one.

We have a boori cradle, they are a very big cradle, my boys are big boys both in weight and length (both in the 97th percentile for weight and length), yet they managed to stay in the boori cradle until they were 7 months of age. I love my boori cradle and wouldn`t be without it.

We have a bassinette....i dont know anyone whom has a cradle, or used it, so cant really comment. There is no way our girls could fit in the bassinett much past 3 months....they grow so quickly, esp lengthwise....the bassinette didnt provide much room lengthways...
