What if you painted over the blue? I know it's not ideal when you're buying a brand new bed but was thinking that might be an option?!
i wish the kura bed came with a pink or purple option and ot just blue... DD1 loved the bed!

but the canopy only comes in blue![]()
our canopy is the night sky
although we no longer have it on..
with the side panels on the bed- each panel has both a blue and a white side to it- so when you are putting it together, you could choose to use the blue side as the back and therefore make it a white bed (this is what they have done in the latest catalogue). i think that if you put one of the wall lights under the canopy in a girly colour (rather than the blue star that we have) then this would make the bed much more girly despite the canopy being blue. i also think that the canopy is supposed to represent the sky- so if you put some girly sheets/doona on the bed then it wouldn't matter![]()
i think ill get the minnen one for DD2, i have it all pictured in my headi think it will look ace!
I like the beds but with ds he is a real clingy kid and we have had many a cuddle in his bed, so am glad I chose a king single for us, and it will get him through to adulthood.
I didn't think an ikea bed whould hold either of us, and wasn't sure what to do with matresses etc, we live in bendigo so it's a mamoth trip to melbourne just to get the next size up.
cassius did you get the single mattress from ikea or a normla single bed from a bed shop? if you got the ikea one which one.
we're getting DD's bedon saturday!!
I got DS an Ikea Sultan matterss a few years ago. It was about $170 ish and had a 25 year guarantee. It's been the best mattress! I highly recommend it.
awesome thanks tinks... will go check it out!
we got an ikea mattress and it's fine.i've slept on it a couple of times with ds. i can check if it's got a name written on it if you like?
I'm trying to decide if that really matters? Surely the best bed base is firm so the floor would be good? Any one else put their child's mattress on the floor? OR know something about bed bases I don't?
ETA: Oh, they sell a seperate slatted bed base. Wonder if it would fit on the floor at the bottom of the kura?

DD has a black metal day bed and DS has the MALM bed, haven't had any problems with them at all.
But we got the mattresses some where else because we got a better deal on better quality ones.
And come to think of it even our queen bed is from IKEA, the HEMNES bed.
They even travelled really well when we moved from QLD to NSW
i personally think that a mattress straight on the floor is too hard. if i wanted to sleep them both in it, i would probably go for a more traditional bunk type bed where the lower part is at a normal bed height. i can't really explain why, i just think it looks more like a little cubby/reading type area than a bed itms?
that would be great ginger
We just put DS1 into the Kura a few weeks ago and have his mattress at floor level, however we haven't yet put the slats in the bed and wont until we 'flip it over' and the mattress will then be 30cm or so off the floor. The bed is completely stable without the slats and as we currently have DS on the floor until he is a bit older, he can stand up on the mattress and not hit his head - AND see through to the canopy which is cool as we have one of those xmas rope lights under the canopy which he loves loves loves. Once he is much older, he can sleep in the top part and we will put all his toys etc underneath for more playspace.
So what you can do is place the bed slats on the floor and then the mattress on top of them and the 'voila' you have a supported mattress at floor level. I can send anyone a pic if you want to see how we set it up (just PM me)
And another handy hint, I bumped my head on the bed a few times so bought one of those pool noodles, but a slit all the way down it and put it on the bed rail at head hight - its a great bumper bar - cost $3 and as I got a blue one it looks cool
