    Question Immunisation question...?

Ok Zyon is 7wks today, we fly to Bali staying in a private villa & mostly visiting my inlaws whom are not out in a remote village but just near the airport.
As Zyon has silent reflux, I was initially advised to wait til we are back before getting his immunisations he will be 10+wks...

Yesterday the MCHN, said I should be pushing to have them done early before we travel...?

    He is breastfed, thoughts please?

Hiya Trace! Without having travelled overseas, I would wait. I wouldnt want to overload his system and risk him not being well for the flight. Some symptoms of first round of vacs are sniffles etc, so wouldnt want ear probs. Just my opinion

Seth still hasn't had his MMR and he is 18 months, he has been sick nearly every other week and my Dr said that is fine, she'll do it as soon as he is healthy which means his 18mths will be delayed also.

I had decided not to get him done til we returned due to him just settling now after incorrect diagnose of Lactose Intol...
so he's exclusively back on breast & settling nicely now, but she said "You are getting him immunised before you go? I'd not travel with my baby unimmunised?!"

The comment left me wondering if I was now being negligent?
The MW was the one whom suggested waiting as temp changes (which we will be facing) can upset the reflux, but so can the immunisations...
I really dont want him to go backwards with his reflux again, it was awful...

So Thanks Jo & Cailin... omg you cant be serious that Seth is already 18mths!?

We leave on Saturday so he will be 7wks & 2days!
We will be back on Oct 10th early morning & at 11:30pm that day til 2pm I think they have the Council ones in my area...
He will then be almost 11wks!?

Tracey, I don't know what the medical answer is, but I personally would not do them before you go now. It is too close if he does have a reaction. If you had been told to do it before you go earlier, it probably would have been ok to do it earlier this week, but now you fly out the day after tomorrow. As far as I am aware Zyon will not be at a huge risk of contracting tetanus or polio on the flight or in Bali so I can't see why that would be a big issue. I think the only issue, as Caro has raised, is the effectiveness if there is more than 2 months between doses, but I am sure they delay for a sick baby so it should be ok. Maybe you can ring a GP and ask them?

OK, I called the VIC, Immunisation line...
She said I could get it done earlier, but it's just as fine to get it done once we are back, she said it's probably easier to wait...
she said if I was to want to get it done earlier, I'd have to mention his age to the Immuniser!
So I will wait til we are back...!

That's good news Tracey that you don't have to worry about it now.

Yeah thats what I thought Tracey. Considering Seth is nearly 6 months late for his MMR and they thought it will be fine if he doesn't get them till next week... and then wait a couple of weeks till his 18 mths immunisation.

Yep 1 less thing to think about, 100000's more hee hee!

Yeah, I know Indah has missed some by a few wks due to illness, the lady said any temp ()as Zy's getting over a bit of a sniffle) & it's best to wait!

    Hi Tracey,

my MCHN said that they have added a new vaccine to the 8 week schedule and it cannot be taken early. Don't know if this is correct or not.
