I'm just wondering whether my DS is ready for 1 sleep/day. He's 12.5 months.
He's never really been a good sleeper (either day or night)...but currently his day sleeps are limited to around 30 minutes (unless we're in the car and I drive around for 1 hour+) or unless he sleeps on me (he'll then sleep for 90+ minutes...but it means I can't move!)
Normally he wakes around 7am-ish and I've been trying to get him to sleep around 10am...but he has been increasingly fighting it and either sleeps for 30 minutes or I just give up and let him play...and he plays more than happily...no grumpy moods!
So...do you think it's time that I try one nap a day?
If so, how?
What time should I aim to put him down for his sleep?
If it's around lunch time, do I give him lunch first?
Monnie, I wondered and wondered this myself..........and about 3 weeks ago it just sort of happened LOL! I'm so glad I didn't push things, because DS really let me know when he was ready. There had been times in the past when I'd only put him down for one sleep, but it would always be shorter than his morning sleep would have been! So he was getting a lot less sleep than he should have! I knew he was ready when two days in a row, he went down for his sleep quite late (11.30ish) and slept for 2.5-3 hours both times!!!!!!!! That is unheard of here, I couldn't believe it (and kept creeping in to check on him LOL). Since then he routinely has anywhere from 1.5-3 hours sleep in the middle of the day, and only occasionally has a second sleep.
Sorry to ramble, I can't really help you, except to say in our case, I didn't really need to decide to change things, it just happened. You can always give it a go a couple of times and see how it works. As for lunch, we've worked out a nice little routine where DS has a sandwich before going down, and then some cheese and fruit when he gets up. If I try to give him his full lunch either side of his nap, he just won't eat it all. HTHs!
About the same age with my daughter she would have lunch about 11.30 or 12ish ... and then have a sleep after between 12 - 1pm. Her sleep could be anywhere between 45mins to 2hrs (on the rare occasion 2.5hrs) ... and as she got older the arvo sleep got later like about 2pm
When she turned 2 & 2mths her arvo sleeps just stopped ... she no longer wanted to sleep & she was wide awake
She is now 2yrs & 4mths ... Needless to say I ' so miss ' that time to myself when she would have an arvo sleep
P.S - Love his name FELIX ... it's my 13yr old nephew's name ... he was a miracle baby & Winter bub too though in mid July. My sister had him (1st born) at 38 !!!!!!!!!
