Hi all...our little bubba (1 this week) has a lump in her neck...it's about 2cms round at the moment plus there are smaller ones around it. We've been for ultrasounds, blood tests etc and seen a GP and a paed. They are telling us that it's the lymph nodes and that if it grows at all in the next 2 weeks (which it has already) then they'll have them removed by surgery. The lumps move under the skin and don't seem to hurt. However her blood test results showed that she has a high liver count and a low kidney count as well as high platelets count (all of which apparently aren't too bad in the paed's eyes). She has also had a cough for the last couple of months. I'm worried about leukemia. We noticed the lumps about 3-4 weeks ago when the biggest was only pea sized...they're on her neck down low near the collarbone.
Anyway, my questions is...are there any other bubbas out there with similar lumps and what have you been told??
We went through this with our eldest about 2 years ago.. He had a massive one that measured over 5cm in diameter in his neck plus about 15 more around his neck up to his ears. he had a few smaller ones under his arm as well
he had blood tests and nothing out of the ordinary came back.. We had the C word mentioned to us which completely freaked us out. after about 2 months the lumps seemed to go away and the pead suggested he had glandular fever,. We could have gone and gotten him another blood test but we chose not to as the poor boy had already had so many..
I am not sure how young a child can be to get Glandular fever though,
:hugs: it sure is scary. I hope your little ones lumps turn out to be nothing
My oldest DD has a lump in her neck I'm going to get checked next time I'm in there. I noticed it about 18 months ago, but forgot all about it til I saw it again a few weeks ago. I talked to mum & she told me I had something the same when I was younger & that it was just a lymph node, it went away eventually. I'll be getting DD's checked JIC though.
My little sister had a lump like this and unfortuntely it was lymphoma. Please don't be scared about this as the first blood test they did showed absolutey no doubt that it was cancer so the fact that your little ones didnt' show that straight away is a good thing. Best of luck darl and hope the lumps go away!!
Sorry to hear about your sister...that's terrible... I want to ask if she's okay now but really don't want to know bad news so perhaps I'm best not to ask.
How did they know that it was lymphoma from the blood test results? Did she have a specific test done? Or was it the kidney/liver & platelets counts that showed it up?? I'm wondering if Kaity's was just in the early stages when she was tested (it was only a week after we found the little pea sized lump).
My DS has had a lump on his neck for about 12 months, surrounded by some smaller ones. It is very much as you've described, although smaller. His is a bit bigger than pea-sized, and moves quite freely. I took him to the GP about it earlier this year, as I wasn't sure if it was getting bigger. DH and I were privately very worried it was the C word. But neither of us told the other until after the ultrasound, which showed that it was indeed lymph nodes, and no need to worry.
FWIW, I still have a twinge of panic every now and then when I look at it (it's quite obvious). But I figure if it still worries me next time I take him to the GP I'll ask about it again. It sounds as though your HCPs have been very thorough, although I understand it's hard not to worry. Would a second opinion make you feel better?
I'm wondering the same thing...would a second (or third in this case) opinion help...hmmm...it definitely wouldn't hurt... I wonder if another doctor could get a hold of the results easy enough if I went somewhere totally different?!?!?! I have a copy of some of the blood test results but not the ultrasound results...all of which are at least a week old now, some are 2 weeks old now.
Been thinking of you all week. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.
Happy 1st Birthday to little Miss K for Thursday. I can't believe it's been a year since your little (big!) girl was born!!
Thanks Megan. It's growing at a crazy rate (was about 1.5 cms last Thursday and is now about 2 cms) and it's sort of got a red patch around it...not sure if that's just us feeling it every 2 minutes or if it's like an infection type patch. I'm soooooooo scared!!!! I had another teary morning...I'm trying so hard to focus on her birthday party but keep getting sad. I'm so scared.
