    My baby has acne!!!!

Miss P is 6 and a bit weeks old, primarily BF with FF comps. A couple of weeks ago she developed little red spots on both cheeks which have spread to her chin and behind her ears. They are quite red and slightly raised, they don't seem to bother her at all. It looks like she has a nasty case of acne!!!

Are these milk spots? My other two bub's never had them, but they were FF?? Is it something I'm eating? And how can I get rid of them, 'cause I don't like 'em!!!

I would say it is probably just newborn rash. It happened to my DD something shocking at around the same time. The poor thing, she did look just like she had acne, but it did clear up in a couple of weeks. I dont think it has anything to do with what you are feeding her or yourself, it is just a hormonal thing.

Yeah my DD got that too. They went away. It's a hormonal thing I think.

yeah it is totally normal, my DS1 got them bad so much so that my BIL made a comment at his christening....asking what it was. That was spot on the 6wk mark. Not sure there is anything you can do but just let them do there thing and go away. Do not scratch or pick at them as this can cause scars. My DS2 never got them and he is fully BF but DS1 was FF, so don't think that makes a difference.

DD got them too, but she was fully BF at that point. They did vanish, but yeah, it really really sucks.

Both my DD's had this at about 6 weeks - hormone rash or milk spots. They will go away.

Yep, DD had a shocking case of it from about 5 - 7 weeks, neonatal rash my health nurse informed me. She only had it on one half of her face and it really flared up if she slept or turned her head to that side as it generated more heat. Then all of a sudden, it just disappeared. I hated it too, even though it was completely normal

Thank you, ladies! At least I know it's normal and it will go away.

Human Bean, yep, definitely worse when she's hot.

Erin, some of them have little white heads and I sooooo wanna squeeze 'em! But I haven't and I won't...

Hmmm... several of you have mentioned hormones. Miss P also had a pseudo menses at about 7 -12 days. Wonder if it's all hormonally related???

Fingers crossed it clears up soon... even though she doesn't seem bothered it LOOKS painful. Thanks for your replies!

Yes its very much hormonal related, the first lot can be triggered from hormones delivery from birth, the second is from the hormones delivered in breastmilk. As the levels of hormones drop in breast milk due to the change from hormone induced supply to demand, the pimples should clear up, it can take about 3 months sometimes. It looks awful and painful but there is nothing that can be done, and nothing should be done to them, apparently it won't upset bubs but us poor mummies get upset instead.
