    Nappy Bag

As a first time mum I am feeling a bit lost as to what to have in our nappy bag?

    I was thinking:
    - nappies
    - wipes
    - nappy rash cream
    - nappy sacks
    - change mat
    - 3 full changes of clothes
    - bibs
    - wraps
    - blanket

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dan

I think that sounds pretty good.

I took different things depending on how long we were going to be out for. I like to travel light but also be prepared. This means my nappy bag has just the essentials and the car has a big wardrobe of backups so to speak. Most of the time I would probably only have one full change of baby clothes in the nappy bag and then some spare sets left in the car, along with a spare wrap, blanket and extra nappies and wipes.

My son was (and still is) a reflux chucker - so I alway keep a spare top and pair of jeans (for me) in the car just in case of emergencies.

when Jack was first born thats about what I carry in a big back pack style bag now I take a fold out bag (turns into a change mat) 6-8 nappies, wipes, cream, nappy bags, powder, burp cloth, then in a enviro bag which I leave in car, a muslin and a change of clothes or 2 depending on how long we are out for, you will learn very quickly what you need and dont need

What a fantastic idea about leaving spares in the car so we don't have to lug things around with us. I love it!!!

Thanks for your help ladies. Muchly appreciated.

    Our nappy bag contains:

    no less then 4 nappies
    wipes
    paw paw ointment
    nappy sacks
    change mat
    bib
at least one full change of clothes for bub
    a couple of small toys
    a sun hat
    a light muslin
    a packet of rusks
small container of puffed rice or wheat cereal (finger foods)

    my camera
    wallet
    mobile
    keys
    blue book (baby health book)
    several pens
enviro bag (though I often forget I have it)
my usb key - which usually has photos on it that I need to print

In the early days I carried NO LESS then 4 changes of clothes for DS, NO LESS then 6 nappies, and a change of shirt for me.

I have a big Baby Gear back pack and I feel like I need something bigger - thought I would need smaller as he got older - and I don't even use cloth nappies when I'm out that have to be brought back home - DS just poos WAY too much for all that hassle!!

I figure, for myself, that half the stuff i used to cart around i never needed! so i had this huge bag with me all the time!

My DD was a reflux chucker babe and i felt like i lugged a suitcase around with all the spares! so this time round i am the less the better ( he does not chuck!)

i have a change of clothes for DS, change mat, nappies, barrier cream and wipes.

if he is teething, there will be bonjella or something similar.

When he was younger I'd take 2 changes of clothes and some bunny rugs or flanelette nappies for catching possetts

holy cow!! you guys carry a lot!! I don't know why you need so many changes of clothes - Francesca generally only wears one lots of clothes a day - then again she's not a spitty up baby.

    I just carry:
    two disposable nappies
    one cloth nappy
    dirty nappy bag
    cloth wipes
    dummy
    hat
    change mat
spew rag for cleaning up stuff

thats it. Its not like you are going to Antartica or anything!! Why so many chnage sof lcothes and other bits and pieces??

Um Percy, my son weed through two sets of clothes yesterday, we were out for three hours! I only pack two changes of clothes too, so lucky that was all we needed. No, we're not going to Antarctica, but some babies just wee/poo/sick more than others. I don't fancy leaving Nicholas in sopping wet clothes for the drive home.

He doesn't do it at home, only when we're out

DS has mild reflux, plus he loves to pee when you take his nappy off. He's getting better at not doing this, but we can be out for 5-6 hours (for example, visiting PiL) and they seem to like making DS possett (I do tell them not to hold him like that just after a feed, but they only have him sat up for a small time). I just have to tell myself it's their sofas he's sicking up on! But I don't like giving him to others to cuddle because I don't like changing clothes all the time.

Also, if we're out shopping or I'm at a coffee morning, there aren't always children's toys there, so I bring some for DS just in case.

And we're in the UK, so the weather is never reliable; a cold outfit and a warm outfit are needed unless I want to re-pack my bag every day depending on the weather and even then get it wrong.

I like to keep spares in the car and keep the nappy bag to a large handbag.
I try and have clothes are a bit gender neutral in the car because I seem to find myself lending clothes to other people who don't carry spares quite often. I thought that as my babies got older I wouldn't need spares so often but they still have accidents with bottles of juice and so on.
Yasin has his own backpack these days with a couple of toys/books, a water bottle and maybe his blankie/dummy if we'rre going to be out late.
DH has his own nappy bag in his car - it's a backpack with some wipes and nappies and a dummy (just the basics lol).

Yeah I have a bag in the car with 1 nappy for each child and spare clothes, and a change of shirt for me. In my nappy bag (which is just an oversized handbag) I carry (for 2 children.... 1 3yr old and 1 6mth old):

    2 x nappies for the 6mth old
    1 x pull up
    1 sml pack wipes
    2 plastic nappy bags
all this is wrapped in a fold out change mat which is very compact
    1 wrap
    1 dummy
1 change of clothes for the refluxy 6month old
    1 bib
2 snacks for the toddler or lunch if needed and a water bottle for her.

Thats it... when Jovie was having issues with breast refusal I would take a bottle with water & a container with formula in it. Having 2 I didn't want to be carrying around heaps of stuff... if I needed it I could find it in the shops.

I don't like carrying around heaps of stuff, and I guess when we traveled to the US with an 18 month old we had to learn about coping with not having something on hand while on the plane etc.... I don't mind coping because I'm not often out of the house for 8 hours. Of course that didn't help when Matilda was a baby & in the sling & projectile vomited down my shirt and pants and even into my shoes... that time we had to just go home. A change of shirt wouldn't help

I think everything else has been covered, but I always have breast pads too (but I guess I am the only "leaker" here LOL!!). Oh and has toddler sunscreen been covered (for those of us with an older bub)?
