I have a spare set of everything everywhere, especially with a newborn - spare set of clothes in the nappy bag, another one in the car, another at grandma's house and a last set in the pram. Its not uncommon for DD#2 to go through three sets of clothes in a day. Her pooplosions are truly scary!
My bag for newborn baby:
2x clean breast pads
1x muslin
2x cloth nappies with liners
flannel (just in case loo paper didn't clean him up enough)
change mat
change of clothes
tiny thing of nappy rash cream, which still isn't empty
book for me, water, hairbrush, lipsalve etc.
After about 3 months I also took a soft toy, a rattle and a small board book. Even if DS wasn't interested his friends were!
For the first 2 months I had a little bag that went with the pushchair under the carseat clip-on bit and that took EVERYTHING I would ever need. Then the new pushchair didn't work with that so well, so I just used a big handbag and that was better for me.
