do cloth nappies give nappy rash more than disposables? my dd uses cloth nappies at day care and she seems to always come home with little red spots down in the nappy rash area and even up high near belly button where the top of the nappy would be.... we only use disposables at home and havent had this problem.
i use washable nappies during the day and disposables at night
cloth nappies need to be changed more frequently, as they dont have the same absorbancy as disposables...so I would perhaps ask the day care if they could change the nappy every 2hrs or so
you could maybe also try a gently cream on her bottom for when is wears the cloth...calendula based creams work well...those that are blended with almond oil and beeswax work wonders
i would say that her cloth nappy is being left on for too long and i reckon they'd be using the plastic covers over the nappy which sweat and cause nappy rash. i agree with yogababy, ask them to change them every 2 hours at least and a nappy rash preventer and cure that works wonderfully for DS is Lucas paw Paw Ointment you get from the chemist in a red tub.
Zinc based creams are good for nappy rashes, but shouldn't be used with cloth nappies. The cream is water repellant and if its on the nappy, it makes it water resistant and not as absorbent. I've not used that pawpaw ointment but have heard wonders about it. Methinks I should get some, we're going to be using cloth soon. Yes and those horrible plastic pilchers, eeeuuuck. PUL or fleece are really good. If you use these, then make sure the day care know to use only these and also explain how long they use it, or alternate etc. Good luck!
It does sound like they are not changing the nappy often enough. Zinc cream is great and it is as cheap as chips so you can be generous with it. Also another thing to consider is what you are using to wash the nappy, perhaps the chemicals are reacting with the urine and irritating your baby’s skin.
