    Need Urgent Advice

I need some urgent advice please. Olivia has had a temp all day. I've been giving her regular panadol but it is now up to 39.5. When do I need to get her checked?? I'm getting really worried.
    TIA

I would call the hossy and ask them. Have you been treating her with panadol? How is she behaving, is she eating, sleeping, responsive and happy? If it is not coming down with Panadol then I'd say get it checked to be on the safe side.

ETA: Sorry just saw that you said she has been having panadol. I'd just ring the hossy/GP for their opinion.

Id got to the hospital too - Have you given her a cool bath and waited til she shakes in the bath?
If you have nurofen for kids try that as well (only when your due with the next panadol time)?

But either way, go down to the hospital - just to be on the safe side.

Can you get out and get some nurofen too. She can have one dose of panadol and one dose of nurofen too. I would call a gp or the hospital just to ask what to do though. Has she been drinking and/or eating. If she can keep at least fluids down, then I'd say she's probably be ok for now. Just make sure she doesn't get too listless.

39.5 is a little too high.
Do Not give her a cold bath but you can give her a tepid bath
You can also alternate nurofen and panadol. Give panadol then 3 hours later give nurofen then 3 hours later back to panadol and so on. If you can not bring the temp down soon you should go to the hospital

    Hey Dan

Hope things are ok :hugs: What other symptoms has she got? It is just so stressful when they are sick

Like Alan said, don't give her a cool bath (tepids good but not cool- sorry for repeating) and DON'T let her shake in the bath, but I'm sure you know all that..

    Thinking of you honey..

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! We have just given her some panadol and if it doesn't come down we are going to take her to the hossy.
    Thanks everyone.

sorry ladies i didnt mean a cold bath but a cool/warm - "tepids"

About the shakes - ive been told by her GP that the shaking is when her body is fighting the fever. That its not dangerous. But every GP's opinion and thoughts are different for what ever reason.

Sorry Nazela! Wasn't meaning to have a go at you! You're exactly right in saying that every GP says different things so it's hard to know what the right thing to do is. Shaking can be dangerous, as it can raise the body's temp even higher. Not good!

Good plan Dan, hopefully Olivia will get better so you won't have to take her.

Shaking is the body's way of increasing its heat. For example when you are cold you shiver, this shivering is caused by your muscles, when your muscles work they create heat.

No its cool - i was told about the shakes when bub was about 4 months.

Wont do it again if its all wrong. Like what i said GPs always have different theories,

    Dan,
Good luck hun ..hope you manage to get some sleep tonight after you get some answers. Many times we went to hossie with fevers and letting professionals get on top of it can be a god send.

Dan. Just checking to see how Olivia is - won't reiterate what the others have said But WILL say I think you did great doing all the right things and giving the panadol a chance to help the fever before going to panic stations. Good for you! Good on you for keeping calm and I hope Olivia is getting better.
