There was another thread where a questions was asked about when the standards were coming in, but it was a while ago.
I know that companies are already changing them as all the Bugaboo's coming in are all getting the brakes switched over, which is a reason for delays in their delivery, so when they do arrive, will be all conforming to the new standard before that date.

I had no idea. The tether is a good idea. One of the mum's who lost her baby in the river was on the phone, so that would've helped. But usually when a pram rolls away noone's near it. I don't put the brakes on at home, but out I usually do.Well out doors. I don't really worry in the shops n stuff.
I think the red brake is a good idea so that if someoine is using your pram who'd unfamiliar with it will always know its 'the red one'.
I think the tether strap is okay if you have one bub, but it is largely impractical especially if you have older toddlers who arent in the pram - if you're tied to the pram what happens if you need to chase after them? It may be a split second thing and they're out of reach.
Must admit I never used to use the strap when I was out and about - but have been since a friend got a phone call saying her DH had collapsed in a driveway down the street. Luckily he had the strap round his wrist and their DD didn't go rolling down the road. So I have been using it more!
The pram I bought last year doesn't red footbrake but it does have a wrist tether strap. I use the wrist tether strap but I'm an offender of not using the brake. I should but it is a pain and the pram is tied to me so it can't go anywhere.
The family that lost the 1st baby in the river Torrens was a local family to us and the local paper went more in depth than what the rest of the media did. The pram they had was a childcare 3 wheeler. The packaging on the brake to make it harder to stab someone looks like it is part of the pram so that hadn't been removed. when the brake was applied it didn't work. I have another friend who had the same issue, but thankfully was not at the river torrens. I have had a few prams, and the wrist strap is difficult to use when you have a toddler running off all the time. I use a harness on her when she is walking and I am the only adult with them. A harness Saved my cousin's life! she fell down a cliff but thankfully her mum had the harness on her. There are lots of rivers in Adelaide with no barricades. it is so dangerous! The thing with the wrist strap I think is if the parent is not holding the handle tight enough, and it slips out of the parent's hand
we bought a new pram before our holidays earlier this year and it came with a wrist tether. It was useful as there were times where we'd be walking on sloping ground etc. It did give me peace of mind however, my added bonus was DH was there to attend to my 3year old. A tether and 3 year old, although well behaved mostly(the child, not the pram, hehehe) isn't always as practical as it sounds. That being said, a tether with one hand on the pram and the 3year olds hand in my other hand......adds a tad more security.
Regardless of brakes and their colour......strangely enough, I trust my hand on the pram and the tether around my wrist more than I trust brakes enough to let go off a pram on any slope! But that's just me and my paranoia
