What dummy are you using for your newborn? Any recommendations on the best one? Also I have been told that the bigger the teat the better, is this right?

Actually I thought you weren't supposed to use them for 6 weeks at least?
I havent heard about ' the bigger the better' but i used the Advent newborn dummies. I found they were the smallest ones i could find and he never gagged on them.

I think it depends on the baby. It's been a while, but my newborn (or toddler for that matter) refused/s the orthodontic shaped teat, and will only ever take the Tommy Tippee ones.
Both my girls liked the Avent silicone dummies.
umm...just a question. what are baby dummies??
We initially used the Avent ones. We changed to Tommee Tippee cherry style because we found the Avent ones which are thinner were always falling out while he was going to sleep and he became unsettled and we spent half the night going in to put the dummy in. We have used Happy Baby but think they are a bit flimsy compared to TT.
One thing to keep in mind is that silcone ones can be sterilised in the microwave while the latex ones need to be boiled or cold sterilised.
HTH.
When DS was the hospital their Mothercraft Nurse suggested I get one for him then, and she said the cheap Happy Baby ones were usually the most popular. DH got a few different ones which he used for 3 days and has only used them as toys to chew on ever since.
My DS uses Happy Baby - they are cheap and work the best for us...
DS has only ever had the Happy Baby brand - which was good, as they're the cheapest! He was given one in SCU, that's all they use, so that's what I continued to use at home.
I tried him on a couple of others that I had waiting at home, but he was not interested.
Lulu, that's just in relation to BFing, dummies are safe for newborns if that's what you meant. You can even get premmie ones! And in some cases it's okay to use them in the early days of BFing, it's just generally not recommended.
We used Avent dummies for Jesse since birth. They have a large shield and being my son has a large mouth also, theyre the only ones he cant fit in his mouth whole.
I would only purchase what size is recommended for their age to be honest.
Aurelia never took to the avent "designer" dummies, but she loves the 'happy baby' ones. I think the roundness is what she likes about them. I always gave her ones that were a size too big, because they were to relieve her teething (i wanted her to be able to chew on them).
I used a MAM soother when DD was a new bub. It wasn't too big and didn't cover half her face like some do!![]()
