    Newborn sleeping help

My baby is 3.5 weeks old and I am struggeling to get her to sleep in the mornings especially, she is really unsettled. She wakes about 6am ish and will fall asleep and only have half a feed, but she'll only nap for about 30 mins and then she doesn't settle until about lunch time, where she will then do the normal sleep, eat, play, sleep routine. What's going on? I can't even get her to go to sleep by cuddling, feeding her, etc. If I do, I put her down just as she is drowsy, and she will sleep for a max of 10 mins. She is tired I am sure, because she is yawning and grizzly.

Any one else experienced this? Any suggestions?

Also, in the afternoons and at night (when I can get her to sleep) if I'm not supposed to be letting her cry herself to sleep cause she's too young, but not supposed to be feeding or nursing her to sleep either, what do I do? By the time her eyes get drowsy and I walk to the basinet, she is already asleep, so therefore I have ended up nursing her to sleep.

    Thanks!!

I'd be either feeding or rocking her to sleep. Plenty of time for her to learn how to self settle - and you can't spoil them at this age

hun your doing a great job !!
at this age a play feed sleep thing isnt going to happen, just feeding and changing is enough stimulation for her, she sounds very overtired.
at this age DD was only lasting up 40 mins before needing to go back to bed.
are you wrapping her still? id be inclinded to put her back to bed after 40-60 mins or feed/rock her to sleep

Id be inclined to feed or nurse to sleep also. I dont think that you will be teaching any so called bad habits at this early age. I often found the only way to get ds to sleep when he was that little was to feed him then gently place him in his bed or swing. Sometimes i would just curl up with him where ever we were feeding and have a rest listening to his sleepy breath - so beautiful and something i miss. Do what works for you and Lily but also take the time to enjoy her. she is so beautiful Joey xx

Joey - Try wrapping her tight and rocking her to sleep, I agree with the other lovely ladies, u cant spoil a newborn and she may settle better if feels content in your arms at this point, the whole theory of creating a bad habit at this point is crap I reckon, my DS only learnt to self settle after about the 6-7 week mark and I nursed him to sleep ALL the time in the first few weeks

    Lily is adorable BTW
