onemore - I agree, i buy things because i like them not because of the brand or the price tag It's just hard, because i have really no idea where to get all the nice stuff being a first time mum. I haven't even been to Best and Less since we have moved to the Gold Coast, so i will definately check it out...
Thank you for all your help and advice ladies, i find it very helpful reading other peoples experiences being a first time mum and not really sure what to expect
hey Catherine.... i think part of the excitement of being a first time mum is buying the clothes... nothing made me happier some days when everything else hurt or ached than to wander around the shops with my bump buying bubs stuff... if u can afford to go a little crazy i say do it!!! you can always pass stuff on to friends when you are a wise ol chook with four kids LOL
i agree with everyone else about 0000, little Eden seemed to fit 0000 for a week or so.. she didnt stay a bub for long... those singlets at best and less are addictive... Edens fav at the mo is 'crazy for daddy'... its nice too for her dad... seeings tho he barely makes it for bath time... atleast shes wearing her daddy singlet....
also target, kmart, myers, cotton on kids(great shop), pumpkin patch, big W....
but bubbies dont need lotsa clothes caz mostly they are wrapped and some outfits just make it impossible to wrap them or wear them or even hold them with out stuff "riding up"...
id say stick with 0000/000 for singlets and body suits and one or 2 outfits and then go 000 on for when shes a couple of months on... caz also gotta think, the coast can be getting mid thirties in November...
Cotton On Kids at Pacific Fair is great, they had a huge sale on recently and there were 50% off lots of things, a friend and i bought 2 items of clothing each as we couldnt help ourselves and neither of us have a baby yet...
Yep i agree, I'll be shopping at Best&Less, Target, Kmart etc for all my babies clothes, i don't see the point in shopping in Myers or David Jones or anywhere expensive as they grow too fast! PLUS the clothes in Target,BigW, Best&less etc are just as CUTE!!!!
Enjoy shopping Catherine!! You must be having so much fun with it!! aawwww....
i seriously have a problem with buying baby clothes.....my girls had WAY too many. Outfits they wore once, some with tags still on...and you will get given clothes as pressies too.
I went a bit silly with DD#2 and bought dresses and overalls - size 0000 and 000. Baby girls just dont wear dresses.....it was a waste.
Bonds jumpsuits, and couple of cute patterned jumpsuits seriously is all you need. I found with tops and pants the tops would always creep up their torso, no matter how much you tucked them in.....and with every tom, **** ,and harry wanting to hold baby when first born, the clothes seemed to untuck themselves, so bubs left with a cold back. Thats my experience anyway...
for hollie, the 0000 lasted maybe 2 weeks, then she was in 000 for a while, and probably at about 2 months was in 00.... she is still in 00 now at 3 months, but for bonds and some other things she is in 0.... she is SOOOO tall, off the charts tall, so she has grown out of things really quickly...
the one piece of advice i can offer you is:
BUY BODYSUITS!! (you remember them from the 80's??!!) they are like little tshirts or long sleeved tshirts with the press studs at the crutch. Hollie wears these EVERY DAY... they are SOOOOOOOOOOO much better than normal tops, as they do not creep up all the time, especially when you are constantly picking them up etc... hollie has so many pretty tops, but i NEVER put her in them as they are too annoying. BODYSUITS ALL THE WAY EVERY DAY! seriously i wouldn't even bother buying normal tops they will just annoy you and be uncomfy for bubs as they will be up under his/her arms all day.
also you can dress them in bodysuits underneath their all in one suits, instead of a singlet etc. they are just so useful.
if i ever have to buy baby presents in the future everybody is getting bodysuits!
hey emma do you like bodysuits?? just joking... thats what i was saying.. nothing more annoying than stuff riding up.... altho in saying that Eden wasnt in a bonds wondersuit untill 5 and half months... shes just such a hot baby... now i see her in it and go awwwwwwww she looks like a real baby LOL...
So Catherine are you out shopping as we speak???
I also found that i knew what colour suited eden after she was born.. some stuff we bought before just looked hideous on her- colour wise...
Both my girls were in 0000 for 1 week, 000 until around 3-4 months and then Matilda was in 00 until 9 months and Jovie was in 00 for 2 months? Now Jovie's in 0 we'll see how long that lasts for though. We can put 00 bottoms on her but not tops or suits.
I made the mistake of only buying 000 for bubs - after all I was told I was having a BIG baby. Oh boy - were they wrong!!!
My DS was born a 00000 man, 000 was ridiculous!!!!
00000 lasted 3 weeks.
0000 lasted til about 7 weeks.
000 lasted up to 6 months (the smaller stuff till about 4.5 months), especially the pumkin patch bodysuits as they seemed bigger.
So, it depends on baby size! Buy a few 0000 things, most average size babies will fit this for a couple of weeks. It's nicer to have something to fit when you bring baby home and want to show bubs off. Big bubbas (4kg and over) generally can't fit smaller than 000.
OMG guys... I broke again... i went out shopping with the intention only buy nusery decorating items.. and i bought more baby clothes!!! I swear... i just can't help myself!
Renee - where did you get those bonds tights from? i can't find them anywhere... I buy from Myers and DJ... it just depends if they have stuff i like - i don't exclude names... as i said i like stuff that is pretty..
BTW - how much stuff out there is so cute for little boys... i reckon it would be sooo much easier buying for a little man!
Bodysuits rock! I love them for the same reason - avoids the clothes riding up baby's back. And with ENVELOPE necklines rather than round necklines because DS hates having clothes pulled over his head.
Also re the clothes riding up the back thing, I solved this problem with Bonds singlet suits. The singlet does up with studs at the crotch and then DS wears his shirt on top. So when he gets picked up he doesn't get a cold bare back and he can still wear his trendy T-shirts etc.
i never bought any 0000 for my son, but he was eight puond when born and the 000 were too big. I am pretty sure he was still fitting in them when he was 5 months old. Next time round I am definitely buying some 0000.
OK. So here's the weird thing. I had Daniel in 0000 for about 6 weeks BUT now, he is 20 weeks old and is fitting in to a 0 wondersuit - he is sooooooo long. It really depends on the baby. The age guide is useless for Daniel, but the 0s have lasted quite a while. He had a huge growth spurt. So everything between 0000 and 0 went REALLY quickly.
He was only a little guy when he was born (3.32 kg or 7pounds 5 oz). However, despite the fact he was a small guy, he never wore 00000 - that's tiny!
Claire was 2.9kg/6lb 7oz and 48cm long when born. She wore 00000 for about 6 - 8 weeks, and then wore 0000 until about 2.5 - 3 months. She is now 4 months and in 000.
People told me the same thing - not to get any 00000 and 0000 clothes, but we definately used them for long enough to get some worth from them.
We got a bunch of those all in one suits - great because they dont ride up at the back like a two piece outfir does, and I do agree that the envelope neck or the ones with the studs to open the neck up are so much easier.
