Kim, can't help I'm afraid, but I do know that the amount of pooey nappies varies depending on breast and formula fed babies. I know breast fed babies can go for a week without a pooey nappy (yet to see this!!), but not sure about formula fed bubs. They are more prone to constipation though so definitely something to watch out for....hope someone else can help you!
No poo... but i think she must be constipated now.....overnight she had a tiny pellet looking poo... and her bub was red as red and a little bit of blood....like where it must have torn a lil
Poor bubba.... so ill try the warm water trick... sometimes it helps.....i never seen this coming tho....
No she isnt on solids yet Mads. Chels normally does a poo daily... some times 2-3 ...so for nothing to happen was bit strange!!
If Chelsea is totally FF, and its been over two days she might be constipated. DS does this too, and I find that extra water, pears and holding him in a sitting position with his knees up (like a squat, but I am holding him on my lap) can usually get things going.
As Madeleine says, prune juice can be really harsh (not sure about the baby prune juice, I know I've seen "apple and prune' baby juice ) But maybe a teaspoon of actual stewed prunes - you can get SPC canned prunes.
You said she hasn't been drinking much cos she has been sick - the best way to end up constipated is to reduce fluid intake, so once she starts drinking again it should help also
I always used the diluted prune juice. Or you can try some suppositries, especially if there was blood as babies can get fissures to, you so might want to lubricate the area to make it easier for her. Also, sit her in a warm bath, it should help also. A stomach massage perhaps? Oh, and lie her on her back and do the leg movements like she is riding a bike, that helps get things down.
Alexa was always FF & She is still on the original formula I started her on as if I ever chnged it she got really blocked up... I have had to give her lactulose in the past... But also tries... the brown sugar disolved in warm water, prune juice (by soaking prunes in water), but unfortunatley lactulose was the only thing that worked for us...
You could also try holding her in a warmer than normal (but not HOT) bath & then when out of the bath, raising her knees to her belly & holding for 3 sec then releasing & repeating a few times...
Also maybe a warm wheat bag on the tummy...
Good luck.. it is hard when your wee one has a sore belly & is trying soo hard to push it out!!!!
Jovie's suffered alot with constipation with all her food problems & I found the brown sugar in water trick to work best for her, but when Matilda had constipation the only thing that helped was pear juice....
