    Not sleeping :(

Yesterday and today my little man isn't sleeping as he 'should'!!

Today especially... he has been up since 8am had a feed, change, play and tried to put him back to bed at around 9am. He wouldn't have it... he has only just gone into his own bed now and has been quiet for 20 mins but is still awake!!!!! He has only slept for about 1/2 hr from 8am when I had him in my arms. I have fed him again and changed him and given him some more play time. He is exhausted but wont sleep.

Any suggestions on how to get him to sleep??

    *hugs* Danielle!!

Maybe he just doesnt want to sleep??? As you know Avaleigh hasnt been sleeping much during the day since she was a week old and she is doing fine and is happy to be awake. If he's been quiet for 20mins but still not sleeping maybe he is not as tired as you think??

But I did notice that if I put Avaleigh under her play gym and just left her there she would eventually fall asleep. Maybe it was the brain stimulation from all the colours??!!

I'm sure he will fall asleep soon!

Does he need to be held all day, is he irratitable or in pain? If any of these discomfort could be causing him to not sleep. But otherwise, I would swaddle tightly, I know you are not meant to, but I always used bolsters either side. Raising the cot sometimes helps, like when they are in the hospital. Soothing music, a relaxing bath or baby massage may also help.

Good luck, no sleep is the pitts.

Maybe he is at a stage now where he wants more awake time? Or does he seem really tired? If he is calm and appears settled I wouldn't worry too much.

If bubs is in bed & not crying then it's ok to leave them there for some quiet time. If they aren't crying then they are not unhappy. Perhaps he's getting to a point where he can stay up a bit longer, does he show tired signs before you put him down to nap?

James is just like that, and always has been. He has never been much of a day sleeper. He goes down for *rests*. If Oscar is happy, then I would leave him in there for what is a reasonable amount of non stimulation rest time.
    Good luck.
