Not wrapping bubs after 1 month?

I just read this not long ago in a magazine article. I had no idea, and my midwife advised me to wrap Annika for as long as she would let me. Apparently, it can cause some physical delays. Has anybody had experience with prolonged wrapping? I still wrap Annika now at 7 months...

Jade, I'm afraid I haven't had experience with extended wrapping as neither of my boys liked being wrapped after 3 weeks anyway (even less for Jack!). But I wouldn't be worried - if Annika needed not to be wrapped I'm sure she'd let you know. If the article is the only reason that you are worried about her development then I wouldn't worry at all.

    Hi Jade,
We stopped wrapping Jacob around 5 months but that was only because he was like a little harry houdini and would wriggle his way out of it.....
I think alot of "articales" and things like that are just one persons opinion or a certain groups studies.... If it works for you babe then why stop!!

We actually just bought Jacob a sleeping bag and he sleeps really well through the night when he is in it maybe that would be a good change if you are concerned.

    Good luck

    xoxo

I wasnt told anything about it causing any type of physical delay. The CHN here also advised me to wrap her for as long as she is happy to be wrapped or until she starts to roll. We stopped wrapping Claire at about 3 months because she just wont have a bar of it anymore.

We still partially wrap Oskar. He won't have his arms wrapped, hates that especially now cos he rubs his eyes and stretches when he wakes up and also like to chew on his fist. He didn't like having his arms wrapped pretty much from the start so he gets wrapped from under his arms only... then when he goes to sleep I put a blanket over him which I tuck tightly across him with his arms down, so I guess he's kinda getting wrapped but can get his arms out when he wants to later on.

Well Darcy was wrapped until well after 7 months and she's a champion climber who walked at 11 months.....wonder what sort of delay they were talking about?

I can imagine it would cause delays if you wrapped excessively as they wouldnt have the opportunity to practice all of their movements but just for sleeps I cant see that it would matter.

Hi Jade, I stopped wrapping Ewan at about 8 months. We went from a full wrap to one arm out, both arms out, then just a body wrap and then nothing over about 2 weeks. The only reason we did this was because summer was approaching and he was getting hot. He slept sooo much beter when he was wrapped so if your little one likes to be wrapped then I wouldn't worry about any article.

I stopped wrapping James at around 4 months, he wriggled out of the wrap continuously so I figured it was time to stop. He has always been a very good sleeper so it didn't really bother him.
