Question Which one??? Cradle or Bassinette??

I have on loan a love 'n care bassinette but have just come across a Boori rocking cradle. In your opinion which is the better one to use or what is your experience with either of these sleeping options for a newborn?

Trying to work out which one is bigger and therefore will be used the longest?

    Any information/opinion/advice greatly appreciated...

I had an old fashioned rocking cradle. It was longer than any bassinet I had seen, but Darcy Dragon learned to roll at four weeks and would rock the cradle - thus rolling her further and she'd hit the side and wake up. The rocking action didn't do anything for her.
She went into her cot after that....no prob.

DS went straight into a cot, but next bub will ue a bassinet if i can borrow one or get a second hand one really cheap, i think a basinet will be good so i can wheel it into any room.

We got a cradle as it was bigger then all the bassinettes we seen. Got it from Babyco and its huge... could easily fit bub up until 6-8 months of age....even longer!

Oh thanks for the responses ladies, still abit unsure.

thinking about the cradle cos it might mean that we can keep MJ in the room for longer. We are moving after Christmas so haven't assembled the cot yet (don't have anywhere for it to fit) so hoping to have MJ in our room until we move.

I like the hammocks - used them while working as teacher in 0-2 room - we had 10 of them for the under ones to sleep in and while I found them great for putting babies to sleep cos we could stand and rock 2 at a time I found them hard on my back in putting the babies in and out (I don't have a lot of strength in my lower back - past injury)

Ohhh seems I rambling - the cradle I'm looking at is listed on ebay and not far from me - so if I win it that's great otherwise I guess I will stick with the bassinette.

Once again ladies thanks for your input - it is always great to have so many people to bounce ideas around with!!!

Sorry to crash the thread ladies but I was looking at a Boori Matilder Rocker Cradle online this morning. Does anyone have one? I'd love to hear feedback positive or negative.

I know I am going to want this baby close to me 24/7 but not really keen on the idea of co-sleeping as DH is worried about hurting bub as he is a very heavy sleeper. The thing about the Boori that attracted me is that it is on casters and you can rock it.

Also, does anyone have a monitor mat that goes under bub? You know the ones that have alarms if the baby has difficulty. Sorry for all the stupid questions but just wondering what the names of the mats are and if they fit in the Boori Cradle.

    Thanks so much.

I wonder if we are looking at the same matilda boori cradle on ebay.

The mat monitor thing is called Angel Care Sound and Movement Monitor and at the moment they are on special in Target Toy Sale for $125 saving $79. I think there is another brand but not sure about its name or price.

Ursula, I was looking at them on the Babies Galore Website, it's on special including the mattress for $350 at the moment. Not quite sure if that is good value but I'm really not in the mood to shop around IYKWIM. I rang the shop and they have put one aside for me until Thursday so I still have a few days to make up my mind. I am unfamiliar e-bay so didn't even look there.

Thanks so much for the info about the Angel Care Monitor, that is a huge saving so I think I might go out this arvo and get one.

    You're a gem.

Thank you, good luck with your shopping, I purchased my on Thursday from Penrith...they were in the nursery section near baby manchester and there in a clear tough plastic packaging and are mainly white with silver accents.

Hope they have heaps left for you...also if interested they had the Baby Einstein play mat that is motion activated with sounds and lights and has the belly pillow for extra support during tummy time for $49.99 (half price)
