Desperately want to go overseas for my 40th, which will be in October next year. Bubs will be 18mths (ish) and I'm having a debate with my DH about where to go.
Would appreciate any hints or ideas about where is a fun place to go, and any advice if you have travelled OS with a toddler.
We have just gotten back from america and had a awesome time. Disneyland is fantastic and so is Las Vegas believe it or not its a great place for kids too so much to see and do.
What a great age for a kid to travel! We took DS with us to Ireland for a wedding when he was 19 months old, and spent 5 days in London and a day in Dubai. I've taken him to NZ a couple of times, too, to visit my sister.
Apparently the Pacific Islands are good (thinking Fiji, Vanuatu etc) because they love kids there.
I'm wanting to take DS to Vietnam one of these days.
Your local library should have access to a copy of the Lonely Planet guide to travel with children - lots of countries and lots of tips
My GF is currently doing a 4 week tour of Czech Rep, rural Germany, Geneva, south of France and Barcelona (mostly family visits, so that helps!) with a 5yo and a nearly 2yo and her DH, so it's all how you approach it...and if you plan to keep it simple you'll have a better time. Simple in what you pack, how you get around, what 'gadgets' you take (slings are better than prams, as are umbrella strollers because they pack better and there are tourist sites that are stroller/pram unsuitable - we had DS on my back in the Ergo to do the Guinness Brewery tour and he fell asleep so that I could pull my own pint at the end in peace, as well as do my dream tour of Windsor Palace with him in the Ergo).
Have fun choosing a place to go!! I'm jealous...and I'm working on DP for a trip to Vanuatu for DS's 3rd Birthday (next June, so, yeah, no self-interest on my part AT ALL...hehe)
We took DD to Penang in Malaysia just before her second birthday. She loved it!
My number place to take the kids would probabley be LA.
Some other places I can think of are
Singapore- there is a theme park called Santosa Island. Very clean place and there is heaps of shopping for mum and dad also
Fiji- they have a few kids clubs so mum and dad can have some free time
Hong Kong- they also have a disneyland
We have taken our daughter to London, but honestly we didn't have alot for her to do. They have a zoo and thats about it. We found she got really bored.
We got super lucky with London - it was early February and the WHOLE time it was sunny and mild, so we ditched our initial plan to bore DS's brains out with museums and galleries (shame, actually, was really looking forward to them!) and did the parks and roads - walked HEAPS. The train to Windsor (hell, all the Tube rides he found fun) was DS's highlight, as was the romp through West Brompton Cemetery. And because it was winter, the tourist count was down, so no major crowds in the parks
