We're going to wait until Jazz asks, and then go to get them done, just because I think it'll be exciting for her to get it done when she wants to.

I'm with you Leash! DD1 got hers done at 7, DD2 was 8 but hers got infected and she took them out but she had them done again at 10 and they have been great this time as she has been more responsible with them and looked after them better.
My dad didn't let me get mine done until I was 14! Mum got hers done at the same time LOL
DD1 wanted the top of her ear pierced when she was 14 so DH did it for her! She now doesn't have any earrings in most of the time although she has a belly ring.

I was 7 when I got mine done & had nothing but problems with them (but that is still the case & just my ears I think). Panda was about 6 I think when she got hers done. I'm not a huge fan of pierced ears on babies but that's JMO. I do agree with everyone else about not going behind your DH's back though - as one PP put it, you have to think about if the situation were reversed, how would you feel.

I have a gf who said she wasn't going to get it done because she wanted to take her to get it done when she was old enough to feel and remember the pain so she wouldn't go nuts and get herself pierced all over in her teens.
Had to laugh at that, if only it were that easy! I have a daughter who is so bad with any kind of pain - that is apart from that which she chooses to inflict on herself - she has pierced her own ears 6 times now, by herself and is continually nagging for more piercings - this is the same girl that it takes me weeks to get her in for a blood test because she "doesn't like needles"...

Can totally relate, I go white at the thought of a blood test/injection but I'll happily sit in a piercers chair!

I had DD done when she was 7 months old, never had any problems with them, however I did go to a pro not just the run of the mile hairdresser.. They numbed her ear with some cream and DD didnt even flinch nor did she cry.

Now that she is 3 1/2 years old she loves them..

I had mine done when I was 6 months old and Im so greatful my mother did them when I was little cos I cant stand needles and for me it worked out well..

If it was me I think you and your DP need to sit down and talk about it.. I wouldnt do it on the sneak.. But thats me.. Good luck I hope you find out what works for you..

LOL I am a sicko and will watch ALL needles, piercings and medical procedures on myself. I even watched the Dr cut out my Implanon when it was causing me trouble...and it was hard to get out becuase of a huge amount of scar tissue around it.

But I watch all piercings I've had!

Oh I have no problem with "gore" or even watching piercings just blood test and injections on myself Maybe from when I was little and a Dr tried to get blood from me 12 times when my mum left the room, still remember her walking back in and saying, "if you touch her again I'll stab you!"

Thank you again everyone... personally i don't think they are tacky, i think they can be quite cute and i'm not specifically doing it as the 'in thing' or to materialise her, i am more looking at it from the point she will never really remember the pain in 10yrs time etc etc.

Thank you all for your very valued opinions i wont be doing anything without DP's knowledge

I don't agree getting them done at an age that they don't understand. But they do look cute. but on the comment of not remembering the pain... What if they don't like them later on. they can take them out but then have a hole KIWM? I have a friend who never wears earrings & doesn't like she has holes.

But I am so glad to read that you wouldn't actually get them done behind your DH's back!

    KNow what annoys me
Just because J man and i have body peircing's we are continuously asked when we are getting V's ear's done...and you'd think that we slap people int he face by the looks we get when we tell them that she can get them done WHEN SHE WANT'S TOO!

Earrings are a bit like tat's for me...their personal, permanent to a degree and only the person who is an individual choice. Although people think its cute ot get their kids ear's done...is it the child's choice??? Sorry to be negetive and all but I just dont get it.

Vy loves her necklaces and girl stuff...know what I bought her and she's happy with them, clip on earrings....she loves them. There are heaps of varieties and when their sick of them they can go backm into their little trinket boxes

I do like the look of little girls with their ears pierced, but I would personally prefer to wait until my daughter asks incase she doesn't want them done. I like the idea of offering to take her as a rite of passage when she gets her period though, what a lovely idea

I waited till DD was at school. It was her choice then.
I remember getting my haircut when i was around 18 I watched a little baby getting her ears pierced, she held her breathe for ages and it scared the crap out of me.

My niece had hers done when she was around 1 and lost several pairs. In the end she had to get them redone again a few months later.

I had mine pierced for the 1st time when I was 6 years old and tbh I'd never get my child's ears done until they asked to have them. Not long after mine were done my mum took my jumper off one night and my earring got caught in a loose thread and it pulled through ripping my ear lobe right through..I have my ears pierced several times and have to wear hoops in my lower ear to cover my tear..I'd really hate for that to happen to my child.
But each to there own and I certainly don't judge others who get their little ones ears pierced whenever they so choose too.
I also wouldn't do anything to our child behind DH's back as that would break all trust in our relationship.

I'm curious about it getting infected - as I said in a previous post, I had mine done at 8 and they were infected for a very long time, as a PP said - I could only wear sleepers to stop it being infected and even now - 21 years later, if I wear studs, they still get infected. I have also got a nose piercing which I have had for about 10 years - it got badly infected for the first 3 or 4 years as well. I thought I must just be a person likely to get infections with my piercings but all my piercings were done with a gun (I also have 7 other piercings in my ears also done with a gun but none of them were infected like my lobes and nose). So guns are more likely to cause infection? and playing with the earrings? I never knew that. I don't remember the piercing itself being painful, I remember the weeks following being quite horrendous painwise - that it what turns me off having my baby's ears done the most. I also didn't realise peircings were permanant because if I take mine out for more than a few days, my holes all close over ...

I don't know if there is really a question in there, I am just talking out loud
