Ours is wooden and bought from Ebay. Not sure what it is coated with but it is easy to clean. No dents or scatches yet (pretty good considering it is second hand!). I can sit on the chairs without worrying about breaking them... and it is a good size for some of my quilting DD loves her table and chairs. And I can repaint it later if needed...
