So DS2 has always been a great sleeper (well, since about 3 months of age anyway!). He used to sleep for 4 hours during the day and it has been 2 1/2 hours a day for a long time now. He goes down easily, usually asking to go down as soon as lunch is finished. He can even wake up at 5:30 and be down again for the night by 7pm. Until......
the last 2 days at day care they haven't been able to get him to sleep. Usually he's the first one asleep, but the last two days they have had to pat him etc - and he still hasn't slept. By 5 pm he is a tantruming mess.
Please let this just be a short phase and not the beginning of the end
Oh hun, My DS has just gone from two day sleeps to one, and that has been hard enough, so I hear your pain. Hopefully for you all it is just a phase and he will sleep again, or else adjust to the new routine soon.
Could just be a phase. Is he in care every day?
Natty's in care 2 days/week and some days she doesn't have a sleep there (whereas at home she will usually have 2-3 hours).
Could be he is just having an off week and will get back into his regular pattern soon enough. (I'm all for positive thinking - I am dreading Natty giving away her day sleep, LOL!)
Thanks for the positive thoughts Snacks. He's in care 3 days a week, and so far is still sleeping well at home. But two days in a row without a sleep scares me - he has never done it even once before. I guess tomorrow at home will be the test.
I know that some kids drop sleeps at this age, but he is such a great daytime sleeper and even DS1 who was never keen on going down for a day sleep had them daily until 3 1/2 and still sometimes does.
We have a carer at home since the begining of the month and me and DH made the executive decission to not force dd down for a nap in the afternoon. Getting her to sleep in the evening is drama enough. She would usually have had a 2 hour nap from noon.
So now she does not really have a nap. Some days she goes down at around 15:00 on her own and I wake her up at 16:00, but that is SOOOO rare. On the days she does not sleep, she may pass out at 17:20 without dinner poor thing.
But I knew that she would be dropping the sleep eventually ... that is until she is my age and CRAVE it!!!!!!
Ashton hardly has day sleeps now Mel. That is mainly to me being in and out all bloody day now we have a 2nd car LOL. Tomorrow he will be in the school creche for a while so I know he will be tired and fall asleep when we get in from school, but if he does he will sleep through till 9 or 10pm and then up for a couple of hours I have to start being a mean mummy and waking him up when tea is ready LOL
Maybe not dropping it all together...but he may not need a sleep every day...my DD#2 was 3 in February, she only just has dropped her day sleep (like your son, used to ask to go to bed straight after lunch etc etc). But, in saying that, we do notice some days (usually every 2nd, 3rd day) she is just a darn ole cranky girl, so we make her have a day sleep - like today for example, she had 2 hrs, up again at 330pm, and asking for bed at 630pm.....so you may still have it....just not every day......
Well TBH, I'm not sure if he slept today or not - I forgot to ask MIL when I got home - doh! But he didn't sleep at day care Mon, Tues or Wed, and yesterday he slept in until 9:30 and my ILs took him out during his normal day sleep time so he had no hope of sleeping. He seemed really good when I got home tonight so I'm guessing he did sleep - yay!! I'll have to find out for sure though.
Ok, it turns out he did sleep yesterday. And today we put him down straight after swimming (about 9:45) as we were going out for lunch and he fell asleep straight away. And I had to wake him (and DS1 and DH!) to go to lunch (for MIL's birthday so we couldn't skip it).
So it looks like it's not over yet thank goodness!
