Poohey Nappy But Fast Asleep - Change Or Leave Be?

I just went in to check on DD and she's done a poo but she's fast asleep.

That means if I don't change her she'll be in a poohey nappy until morning.

Just discussed with DP and he reckons change her if she wakes up but otherwise leave her be.

I tend to agree, what do you think?

I think two factors - is she likely to sleep through, and more importantly, is she teethy/rashy lately?
As in, my boys sleep through and their poop is toxic atm, so as much as it'd break my heart I'd wake them - BUT they'd go back to sleep easily. Probably I'd think differently if I had a tricky sleeper and the poop was pretty harmless.

So there's my completely non-helpful answer.

She's a fantastic sleeper and she's not teethy/rashy. I know she'll sleep regardless of whether I change her or not but it seems rude to wake her up when it's obviously not bothering her. Even though I feel like a deadbeat mum for leaving her in a dirty nappy.

    Dilemmas of being a mum!

If she'll sleep anyway, then it's not really rude, you're like room service. Maybe chuck a mat under her and do the change in bed if that would work? Then she stays warm.

I would change if i thought she would go back to sleep ok.

I don't think i would like to lie in a pooey nappy all night.

I'd change her. Even if it doesn't wake her through the night, she could still wake up really red & sore in the morning. If you reckon she'd get back to sleep just change her.

Plus... I sleep next to my DD.. so i wouldn't want her pooey bum next to ME! hehehe

without a doubt i'd change her, it'll burn her little bum overnight.

Yep, I'd change her too. Oskar did this not long ago and we just gently lift him out of bed keep light very low (enough to just see what we're doing), do a gentle but quick change and straight back into bed. He sometimes wakes but lays there like he's asleep with his eyes open.

I tend to agree with changing if it is overnight. Day naps a little different as it's not for a long period of time. We'd gently turn out little ones and put a mat under them so we could change them in their cot (still laying in the warmth of their bed then) The other thing is that it may avoid having her wake earlier if she detects nappy discomfort so you all get to sleep a little longer. I did change my girls as they tend to have sensitive skin, teething/sick or not and I'd prefer a few minutes of disturbed sleep than an unhappy little moochy with a very sore bottom for longer, if that makes sense

if she would go back to sleep straight away then I would change to prevent nappy rash and for a comfort issue.

If you will have trouble getting her down then I would leave it up to how you feel lol I would still change though but that is me.

LOL how funny is it that I was going to pose this question to other BBers myself after wondering during the night whether it was worth waking DD2 properly or leaving her sit in a dirty nappy for just a few more hours so I could sleep properly??

DD1 always hollered like mad when she was wet/dirty, so I never had the option, but DD2 seems quite unaware of having a full nappy and will happily snooze despite being dirty... so yes, there are times when I leave her go until the next feed, but for the most part I'll drag myself up and change her in bed so she stays warm. We're bed-sharing so she usually goes back to sleep, but sometimes it wakes her up and she wants another feed and when my nipples are too sore from cluster-feeding, I will let her sleep to give myself time to recover. But then, it's a fine line, as she's at that age where she will do a really big poo/wee and it goes up the back of her nappy and through her clothes, so I have to decide whether it's worth waking up in a piddle-puddle and having to change the sheets!

Sorry that doesn't help much... I suppose there are a lot of factors at play But I for one don't think you'd be a bad mum if you let them sleep for a few hours if they don't seem upset by a dirty nappy - I don't do it often and I always feel bad about doing it, but sometimes I just need to let her sleep for my own sake, selfish as that is!

I would definately change her. It will burn her bottom, stink the whole house out by morning and you'll probably need a jex pad to get all the dried on bits off her bottom.

I'd change it, the components of the poo will actually break the skin down pretty quickly. No way I'd leave it over night.

I agree - change her, but leave her where she is and do the nappy change there - and warm up the wipe to minimise waking her with a cold wipe When Bailey falls asleep and poo's I tend to change him where he is, and he usually stays asleep
