Hi Everyone,
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but anyway - hoping for some advice on buying a pram for toddler and a newborn. My DS will be 20 months old when his baby sister arrives in November so we need a new pram. We've been to Baby Bunting and looked at what seems like a thousand different options and are still not really any closer to making up our mind. Ther are a few girls at Playgroup with the Valco one but it seems there isn't much clearance between the baby and the seat on the front and also there is not head and neck support for the toddler. The Phil and Teds looked OK but there aren't many positions for the baby after the initial fully reclined stage, so they both sit up from about 6 months - what if bub wanted to lay down and sleep what then? I did like that they both get full head and neck support though with the Phil and Teds. So, what does everyone think? I'm also thinking of getting a Safe and Sound Maxirider car seat for Ewan and popping the baby into his old car seat. Had anyone used this type of car seat?
Hi Krisp,
i cant really help i am due in Nov myself and my DD will be 20 months old too and i am in the same boat as you. so far i am leaning towards the Phil and Teds as i figure that by the time Bub 2 will be that bit bigger i will have trouble keeping DD in the pram anyway!! let me know ho you go on
Nat
Well i can help you out! I have just had another baby (3 weeks old) and i have a nearly 16mth old as well. I looked at every pram on the market. I was not convinced on the Phil & Teds and for some reason had in my head that it wasn't going to be any good. Well i eventually gave in and took it for a test run and i have never looked back. It is the best pram for both newborn toddler and toddler toddler iukwim.
I find it to be terrific it fits in a small car easily, It fits down all isles and no hassels to get in and out of dorrways in the house. Another bonus is it convverts to a single buggy so when your second child is at the walking stage and holding onto the pram etc you haven't wasted your money. It is also great for walking and the beach etc. It is worth the money thats for sure.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE Phil & TEDS sports buggy double. It is just great. If you have any Questions about it just ask me as i had so many as well when looking. I know about most of the prams cause i was looking for months on end!
Krisp - Don't go the Valco i have heard they are no good and heavy to lift and the shop assistants up here told me alot of mums have taken them back as they are just too big and a pain in the #ss iykwim! I looked at it as well and they are bulky and heavy compared to the Phil and Teds one etc etc. It is up to you though.
I also say Phil & Teds. We've been using ours since Jack was a newborn. It is great with the two boys. If you want the baby to lie down when he/she is older, just move the toddler seat to the front again and undo the zips and clips - you'll go back to having one lying and one sitting in a few seconds.
WRT to car seats, we did exactly the same thing. We got the maxi rider and it's great. When they are older and need the harness you can get an anti-submarine clip too which makes them so much safer (stops them sliding down - when they are still using the straps that come with the seat it doesn't matter as they already have the bit between the legs).
Our boys were supposed to be 20 months apart but now are 19 months due to Tom's early arrival!
i have spent all morning going through different baby shops after a week of looking on the net and have just lay-by'd a phil and ted. The shop ass was very for them and so far i have heard very little faulted with them. i am pleased with my decision. Krisp have you made any decisions or are you leaning to a particular way? keep me posted on how you go
i know you already have a pram but in case anyone else reads this i have the babylove tandem pram & its awesome - i looked into every pram for 2 & decided on this because of the height of the front seat so that the toddler has full head support & also cause it folds one handed to not much bigger than my single pram plus it is really easy to steer & the the baby will eventually be able to see (when she can sit up) instead of being stuck behind like the phil & teds - 4 of my friends have bought p & t's & none of them liked them cause it was hard getting a sleeping baby in & out of the bottom bit
i got the safe n soung maxi rider & put the baby in my turn a tot carseat - the maxi rider is great
I also have the Maxi Rider.. The best thing I have ever bought!! Honestly my daughter has never looked so happy and content whilst we are driving.
My DH and I are also extremely content with the fact that it's the safest seat on the market..
I highly recommend the Maxi Rider, look around though as the price tends to vary from shop to shop!
Thanks to all for your replies. We ended up going for the Phil &Teds Sports. I saw a lady in the supermarket get her Valco stuck in the grocery isle the other day and I've been stopping strangers in the street and asking about the P&T's! Everyone seems to love them so after seeing this poor woman not be able to get through the isle and all the great feedback our decision was much easier.
We also went for the Safe and Sound Maxirider as it will be good for Ewan till he is 8 apparently and comes with the antisubmarine attachment so seems like the safest option for my little man.
We ended up buying another cot and change table too as I'm not convinced our DS will be ready for a big bed as he is a terrible sleeper and being able to hop out of his bed will only make him worse.
Can't wait to start using my P&T. Might even ditch our current one as it is getting very heavy for me to pick up and put in the boot of the car and use the new pram without the double kit until baby arrives. Very exciting having all the new baby stuff again.
Just bumping this thread as my question is/was exactly the same as the OP'er. Anymore feedback on the P and T now your babies are a bit older? I'm thinking it will be great for my newborn but am wondering how they go once both children are sitting up - does the child sitting at the back mind?
Any other suggestions/recommendations out there for prams for 2 under 2?
I have three children and after buying a pram for each pregnancy I got the phil and teds. I wish I did this at the very start. My daughter loves sitting at the back, her view is not restricted at all, she even sleeps comfortably in the seat. They are sturdy enough to take a child up to 4 years in the front. They also fold down really flat and are super light and great for travelling.
I absolutley love the P & T pram!!!!
I cannot reccommend it enough!
I have an almost 3 yr old son and a 1 yr old son and they both love going in it. My 1 yr old doesn't mind sitting in the back at all and he still gets a great view!! I don't hear a peep at all when we are walking! And if he falls asleep, u can just unzip the sides on the bottom seat and he reclines back to sleep. So if both boys fall asleep when I'm out, they can both sleep comfortably. ( I had an awful experience with my Valco rebel pram and toddler seat, which made me buy the P & T. I was at our local supermarket and Toby, my then 4 month old was asleep in the pram and just as I was heading towards the register, my 2 year old Jack started bobbing his head up and down like a golliwog and I realised he was falling asleep!! I very quickly bought my groceries and went out the front. I had to wake Toby up, hold him in one arm, then very awkwardly, move Jack from the toddler seat to the back of the pram...very hard to do holding a baby, let me tell u!! Then I had to walk home, with Toby in my arms as well as pushing the pram cause he was too little to go in the toddler seat! And what usually took 10 mins, took me 1/2 an hour and very sore arms!!)
I went out the next day and bought my P & T's!!
And another thing, my 2yr old then was not a light boy and used to squash my 4 month old's legs in the Valco because the gap between the seat and the pram when the toddler is actually sitting down is very very small!!
And I have got stuck many a times in registers shopping with my Valco, but never with the P & T's...
And they are a breeze to fold up and put in the car too...
never used it but on ebay, there is a nz company that sells a pram that the todler/newborn seat actually goes on the top of the pram where the hood is. so that another option.
Definately the Phil and Ted's!!! I nearly didn't get it because of the price, but I am soooo glad I did. It is fabulous!!! I have even gone out and gotten the saddlebags for it now, which are great because they hold absolutely everything.
