Oh, Jillian, Have to agree on that last one! If I hear one more story about granny's sister's aun't in law's daughter's husband's best friend who had twins and how they were only 500g each, MUCH smaller than YOUR babies but breathing on their own from the word go... GRRRRR, I know everyone has a story to tell. I smile and nod, smile and nod and try not to say anything else that will lay the path for another tale of brilliant twins who are stronger, better looking, smarter than mine.
Oh how rude some people are, although I can totally believe these stories. I always get now (from perfect strangers) - Wow that must be a mistake? (Referring to my almost due belly after seeing my skinny minny of a 1 year old). Next person to ask I am just going to ask how their sex life is!

I remember when Tehya was little someone called her a boy, the fact that her whole capsule was pink and she was in pink, with a pink blanket and had earrings just didn't seem to matter!!! Poor Tehya will be sick of pink when she's older :)

LOL I STILL get it with Matilda...but I don't dress her in pink, I would have thought the pig tails or long locks would get people to think before asking LOL.... but no, I get asked what his name is.

It's good to know I'm not the only one with that problem, Iguess it is hard sometimes to tell what sex a baby is, but you'd think ifyou dress your little boy in blue or a little boys outfit it would be obviouse that it's a boy, same with dressing a girl in pink. I guess you get that but.
I had the same hair as Jenna (curls) and I used to get called a boy until I was at least 4-5 :( I even remember it :(
So I vow to always make sure Jenna looks girly with her hair. Whether it be a clip or a tie, I do my best when we go out. Or else I dress her in pink.
I can't believe that people actually ask whether a pregnancy was planned, that is so rude! I have only asked this once in my life and that was after I had known the person closely for over 10 years (and even then I said something like "please just say if this is none of my business"). I can't imagine saying this to a casual acquaintance or a complete stranger.

It was a week before Christmas so she was about 3 weeks old & gorgeous (to me!)
I think he had been drinking & he is a bit of a K nob!
It was rude & I was with my Mum & she wanted to flatten him, I think i was still on the new Mum euphoric high!!!

Are they identical? (they are a boy and a girl)
Are you breastfeeding them? I often get this from little old grannies on pension pay day and the other one they like to ask is... were they naturally conceived or are they IVF?Never trust a granny, they think because they are small, old and look sweet they can ask anything and expect an honest reply!
Also get, do they sleep through the night? NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!
I had both boys in blue and they ask boy and girl ?

BTW - I hate the comment as I walk past ... 'double trouble' from complete strangers ... one older lady walking past me in the street called it out , the man at Panthers Club reception (was there for BB meetup not a booze up) and out shopping ... feel like poking my tongue at them :nana: double the baby bonus -two for price of one actually ;) double the cuddles :hug:

I get the "is he sleeping through?" and "good baby? " ones too but I also get "What's his name?" which I think is odd... often it's the first question they ask... I usually answer because he has a slightly unusual name I like to gauge the reaction and luckily it's all been positive. Then they ask me the names of my other children and usually make some comment about how "unusual" they are. I wish I had the guts to ask them theirs! It's really quite impolite now that I think about it... still... once again it's usually little old ladies *shrug* so what can you do? LOL
Yup I got the same when I was pg with Noah. Funny though my answer was usually, this was my try for a girl... Well, until the next time when I did :D
Or when I was pg the ammount of people that would ask what I was having, well I hope it's not a puppy!!! Or they would tell me that I was carrying a boy!! For sure 100% when I was pg with Teh and when I would say no actually it's a girl they would then tell me the scan was wrong because I was carrying a boy!! Hmm Not looking inside her nappy...

Oh Jillian, when I was pg all the little old ladies would say I was having a boy because of the way I was carrying, and I'd always reply "Not according to the u/s!" LOL
Bathsheba, I also get asked what her name is and how old she is (better than is she a good baby, etc). I guess I should count myself lucky everyone assumes she's a girl too considering some ppl's comments! She is usually dressed in pink and I've been told she looks very girl-y, whatever that means. Btw, I don't think Verity and Wade are that unusual for names, they aren't common but I've known ppl called both. Niall is a bit more unusual, very nice, Irish isn't it? I also like Niamh for a girl. Good on you for choosing names that you don't come across all the time!

Thanks Jennifer :) I love Niamh too (pronounced Neve) and was considering it before we found out we were having a boy however I do like names that are said the way they are spelt so that was a bit of an issue. Niall is pronounced "Nile" although apparently it was pronounced "Neil" in Ireland until a few generations ago. My DH's family are Irish in origin and that always surprises the little old ladies who also ask what nationality we are because we look Italian/Greek etc you should see the look on their faces when i tell them there are Swedes on my side of the family. Aren't people funny.
If I have a girl next and get asked that qn I think I'll be cheeky and say, "Oh yes, we're going to keep going until we get a boy, just like they did in the old days!"
Bathsheba, Zander's godfather's name is Wade & I've been friends with him since we started kindergarten together, so it's a totally normal name to me LOL! I love your other names as well, Verity is so pretty & Niall sounds so strong to me.
Hahaha Jillian that's so funny! When people ask me where I buy my kid's clothes "because they always look so lovely" I take great delight in saying "oh, usually the Op Shop"... you should see the faces of the more competitative mum's at Playgroup when I say that! Usually it follows the "what school are you going to send your boys to?" conversation... they can't seem to get their heads around the fact that we are sending our kids to private schools yet choose to shop at Op Shops (though to me it makes perfect sense if you want to also be a SAHM!). They just don't seem to know how to "rate" me LOL BTW I love Op Shopping... you find the most original stuff there! I loooove 'vintage' children's clothing.
ETA: Thanks Sarah :) I've loved the name Verity since I was 15yo and "knew" that I was going to name my daughter that name... Wade was my DH's suggestion and Niall was mine but it took a bit of convincing to get it past DH... as did his middle name: Atticus! But a lot of men seem to struggle with naming children it seems.
Better off spending money on our kids' education than on designer clothes, Bathsheba. Although I have to admit a weakness for cute outfits. I think I like dressing Lucy more than myself! I always shop when they have sales. Osh Kosh sell off shoes at the end of each season and I bought Lucy pairs in every size and a few different styles and colours - 9 in total - for $10 each!! Somehow I think I'm getting off the subject here!

I rarely buy myself anything either as the girls always come first & it's funny how I also find some cheap bargains & mix & match them with other cheap stuff & people will comment & ask where I got the outfit when it was all various bits thrown together!

Yeah true. I wasn't excusing what that person said at all. And caste is an awful word for them to use.
People are still really funny about mixed couples tho. Do you find that? We're always getting stared at.. and more-so now that we're breeding! *shock horror* hehe. Especially from the older generations, and very much from other asians! Do you find that?

Tracey - I agree... your girls are just gorgeous! As for people reserving any kind of judgement about their physical features, they can go jump in the lake. People are people... we are capable of falling in love with anyone - even if they are of a different ethnicity. Time for people to let go of the whole "mixed-race" stigma. Urrgh! AND I can't believe that nurse that "assumed" that the baby you were losing had a different father. Besides which, what business is it of hers!! God... I wanna slap her silly!!
Kathryn - don't feel bad about having to ask if the mother's and child's surnames are the same. These days, it's 50/50. Guaranteed every class I teach, at least half the kids don't share the same last name as the mother. The funny thing is (and I hope this is a good thing) is that I am more inclined to assume that Mum decided to keep her maiden name or something like that! Some of the parents have explained to me why their last names aren't the same (marriage isn't for them, they're engaged but not yet married etc. etc.). Either way, it's an individual choice and there are soooo many different reasons so it's not fair to jump to conclusions (not that I think you do... ykwim??).
I often get asked if Gabby is a girl or a boy. I guess the lack of hair doesn't help. It baffles me when people ask when she's wearing pink tho... why would I dress a boy in pink??
In saying that, she was wearing a Ford Racing jumper yesterday with her red water-proof pants and everyone assumed she was a boy.... but she was also wearing a purple pixi hat that I SO wouldn't put on a boy, LOL. I couldn't blame people tho.
I too get the "is she a good baby" question. It used to annoy me but now I give up trying to steer people off such a dumb question. I just say "yep" and move on, LOL.

If you were going down that road I wouldn't know how to classify Lucy - mixture of German, Serbian, English, Italian, Irish and who-knows-what-Australian. And anyone who knows anything about history should know that 'English' is about the most mixed-race background of all!!
And it's actually "good" for humanity to have babies from mixed races... it's good genetically because it breeds out a lot of diseases that are prevalent to particular races. Sorry to be be crude here (I hope I don't offend anyone) but it's like animal breeding: you usually get a much healthier animal from mixed breeds than 2 pure breeds. I have a racially prevalent disease: (Cholestasis of pregnancy is very prevalent in the Swedish race but my DH hasn't got any Swedish blood so the chances of my DD inheriting it has lessened. Anyhow... if anyone else has the hide to comment about mixed race marriages or children just you tell them that!

LOL Niall has also been known to wear his sister's pink wondersuits... being the middle of winter and falling behind with the washing has led to having no other choice... and once I had to go out in public and yes... sure enough someone had to notice and tell me how "gorgeous" she was!
