LOL Deb, I was just picking on ya :p And it isn't red, it's more of a salmon pink :p

I have only bought Lucy blue, green and white wondersuits, since I want to pass them down to #2. But she doesn't tend to wear them when I go out. We got a fair few very little outfits from family that are unisex 'cause they bought them before we found out she was a girl. I also get told a bit "you didn't want anyone to not realise she was a girl". Maybe I'm dressing her too girly!!
Sarah, that kind of pink is lovely on a boy! I also think light pink shirts with a dark dinner suit look great on men too. Depending on the tie...
Ivana,
I do get lot's of stares from other Asians & these are the ones that usually stop my Mum & Tell her those kids arent yours!! Like she's kidnapped them hee hee!
I have that photo of Indah wearing your t-shirt Sarah H on my desk & EVERYONE says that little man looks like a handful... I laugh coz YEP that little miss is a cheeky, stubborn mimi me!!!
My Mum wets herself laughing at the moment as Indah is so stubborn & has a bad temper... Like me apparently!???
I dont mind when they simply ask what nationality the girls father is etc, but when I just get people up in my face being rude about the mix kids thingy it really p!sses me off!
I once attacked a lady in Safeway when her son was rude to Maddison about having dirty skin, it was Summer & yep she was pretty brown, but I will never tolerate my kids being attacked with racism & this Mother copped an absolute foul mouthful from me... I will not stand around & wtacxh anyone be put down, judged or disrespected because they are different!!!
I gave her some new words to teach her kids & I never saw a person shrink so low in all my life!!!
I used to be deli manager at the Safeway about 8 yrs earlier & so I knew most of the staff & they all laughed!!!
My Girls are pretty tom boyish, I cannot buy clothes for maddy unless she is there coz she flat out refuses to wear it!!!!
Good on you, Tracey! Fancy that kid saying that Maddy had dirty skin. It's not like we live in such a sheltered society that we don't know that other skin colours exist! Sheesh!
Apparently when I was a baby (probably about Gab's age??), we were at church. There was a family visiting from Africa (I can't remember the specific country). Anyway, I wandered over to the lady and she picked me up and sat me on her knee. Apparently I was facinated by her hands. I kept turning one of her hands looking at the palm and the back of her hand. Mum said she was sooo shocked when I rubbed the top of her hand then looked at my hand to see if the colour would come off!! LOL Apparently the lady just laughed and commented on the innocence of children. Mum was pretty mortified tho!! LOL
My Mum & Dad tell me how they always knew I had a thing for coloured men...
I was 2ish years old & they had taken myself & older sister to thE Melbourne Zoo.
At every enclosure we stopped at there was this attractive african guy really tall & had fluffy/fuzzy hair (so my Mum tells me!)
Apparently they'd bend down & say 'look at the seal, gorilla, giraffe etc, etc!'
But the whole time I'd be staring up at this guy & smiling, I was so inqusitive & I just kept staring at him at each animal we got too.
Mum & Dad constantly tried to get me to look elsewhere & kept apologising, but he had a deep voice & spoke to me & I was just so enthralled by this man...
Apparently they said it was a waste of time trying to get me to look at any animals!!! hee hee
That's a cute story Deb....
Awww... that's cute, Tracey :) It's the innocence and the inquisitiveness of children, hey?
I have a similar cute story about my little sister.
We were on holidays at a caravan park and my little sister would have been about three. She was so cute with blond curls and fair skin. She brings home a friend she's met, telling Mum her friend looks just like her. Her little friend was very dark, African descent with tight dark curls! Maybe she meant the curly hair!!
OMG you're kidding! Bah to them :p:
Awww that's a great story, Jennifer!!
Hmmmph at work yesterday a few ladies said... "How on earth van you still want to be feeding a child with with teeth? You will give up before her 21st!?"
I replied & said if she wants me to feed her on her Wedding Day I will, as long as she is happy & healthy!!!!
Then another woman piped up that she had heard (after telling her SIL to stop feeding her nephew at 16 months) that feeding a child up to & past 2 years gives them better communication skills & confidence???
They all said Oh.....
Trace.. I really reckon people just don't "get" breastfeeding. Even some that have BTDT don't seem to understand just how magical and amazing booby juice is! I must admit, before having Gab I didn't really think it was "appropriate" to feed past 12 months (though I never, ever would have said anything to anyone about it). It's ignorance that makes people say comments like that. What bloody business is it of theirs anyway?? Grrrr!
The comment i get often is "oh he is so cute.... When are you having another baby?" I Just smile and say "soon". I mean c'mon since when do you say "Oh we actually bd'd this morning, so maybe its on the way now!!"
I also get "Oh he is adorable. A little girl would be so cute next..." Um yeah a girl would be nice!! Like we can choose!
My son is half Filipino and half Aussie. He has the cute little Filo nose, with the darker features, and i am currently preg, I wonder if this baby is more aussie, could you imagine the comments i would get? Oh do they have the same father?? Yes ladies i know most of you get that too, Its gotta be frustrating!
Have a good day,
Jen
Just thought I would contribute to this discussion.
A couple of questions I constantly get asked in addition to the usual ones are
'How's the baby?' and I reply 'still breathing and I'm great thanks'
'Where's the baby?' (if I'm out on my own) and I reply 'At home with the dog!'
Hehe precious - whenever I'm out without DS I get the same thing... "Where's the baby?"
Arghhh!! I also get the 'Oh' of disappointment when they realize I'm not about to produce him from behind my back lmao...
I always get asked "Where did she get such blonde hair", "Wow blonde hair and brown eyes, thats different" and nearly everyone asks "Does she ever stop talking". DD is such a chatterbox and is constantly talking never, ever stops.
Well the other day I was promptly told my baby looks nothing like me.. is his father dark? He's asian, so he's not dark, but dark features.. compared to my blue eyes and light hair.
I like to think I can see a LITTLE bit of me in him somewhere! heh.
My sister was asked on Tuesday at the shops..
Lady pointing to Indah, "Is that all her own hair?"
My sister said, "no some of it is her grandmothers!!!!"
Hmmm, some people say Odd things when it comes to babies!
Ivana ~ Everyone I know swears that Em looks like Gordon! Even the people who haven't met Gordon!!! I like to think I'm in there somewhere lol. Gordon is happy about it (of course) but said if we have a girl next then he's hoping she looks like me lmao!
Ivana - I think Tallon does look a bit like you, particularly the lower part of his face, his chin and jaw line maybe? I definitely think he looks like he's your baby!
Liz, I agree with Jen Tallon does look like you too. Asian features are very dominant over our western features though. Mark's nieces and nephew are half Thai and you'd swear they were full most of the time.
ROFL :cryinglaugh::
My little man is also on the cute chubby side, and i always get "Gee, He's a big boy, Is his dad big"
I reply with... YEAH, You BET!LOL!!!
*bump*
older people say to me "do you give her water?"
others ask "is she a good baby?"
I get asked "oh are you minding him for the day?" Um,no! "He's my son!"
Toby's dad is Jamaican so needless to say he's not exactly the spitting image of me, what with my brown straight hair and blue eyes.
I used to get really offended in the beginning and used to reply with "I gave birth to him and i have the photos to prove it if you'd like to see?"
When wearing the HAB, I get asked - "Is he comfortable in that?" "Aren't you squashing him?" "Can he breathe in there?"
I am not a big believer in socks (he always pulls them off anyway ) - so I get asked "aren't his feet cold? shouldn't he be wearing socks?"
Calvin is quite big for his age, so we get asked all the time "How much does he weigh?" and "Is he crawling yet?" (the next part of the converstaion goes "don't worry, he will slim down once he gets moving" - sigh!!)
We have also have the "half-caste" comments, which are sometimes politely expressed as "what nationality is his dad?" - but once I was asked "what IS he?" *humf!*
oh this made me giggle
I always avoid asking that and will pull oters up for it
yup we have copped the cold feet and will lose weight comments too.. more so with our boys
At the moment all we get is.. Oh you got your girl  sorry but it drives me insane..
Getting a little tired of it after nearly 9 months.. oh and my mums neighbour who is soooo creepy.. Always says with a creepy laugh.. Told ya how to get a girl.. Rub mums tummy so the penis falls off ... and he is just eewwy
I get asked "is it a boy or a girl?" which is kind of silly when she's wearing a pink dress and pink tights. I think its because she doesnt have much hair, but still, the all pink should be a bit of a give away.. in my opinion (although i think its ok to dress boys in a bit of pink too but since when do you dress a boy in a pink dress?). Lots of people just come up to me and say "how old is HE?".
I also get told "oh he/she's too young to be walking already". I tell then she's 17 months and that she's been walking for 6 months. They looked shocked. She isnt that small so not sure what the big shock is all about.
I used to get conversations with all the dears in the shopping centre all the time. It used to go something like this
"Ooh twins! "
"Gee they are small"
and the clincher for me
"Were the natural"
and then they would try and touch them- by this stage i would have steam coming out of my ears and would come back with some smart comment so they would realise how dumb they actually sounded!!!
I would say - they were triplets but i lost one whilst i was shopping, so if you see him let me know!
or they are as natural as an egg and a sperm can get!
THe classic was when i went for a coffee one day at Gloria Jeans. My twins were like 2 months old. She asked me if they wanted a bubba chino as well- i asked them if she had them in breastmilk flavour! She just gave me that dumb look!
I used to get stopped so many times when i was shopping that it became soo annoying. People would actually stand in front of my pram so i couldnt get past them! And god help me if one of them was crying, every single grey haired lady would approach me and give me advice as to why one of my babies was crying!
Just what a first time mum with prem twins needs!
Ok Rant over
odette
I got that with DD1 all the time. She was a baldy baby, but ALWAYS in pink!
Once she had on a pink hat, pink & orange shorts, & pink crochet tie up top & STILL got asked if she was a boy or girl!!!
Since having Jesse -
yes we know what causes it
yes we finally got our boy
yes daddys proud
& yes they ALL have the same father!!!!
Oh & no Jesse isn't circumsised. Why? coz I said so, thats why!
:p
i get asked " whats wrong with his eyes ??" nothing actually ( but he does look a bit crosseyed , but they are fine , just wish ppl would stop briinging it up!!)
and also " wow what do you feed him , hes a big boy , which side of the family does that come from ??? " .. um be barely eats , he is always too busy running around , and wtf do you say to the last bit ....
When DS was 8 weeks I got asked "what does he eat? Is he on solids yet?" The girl who asked me was quite naiive. She looked at me oddly when I said he just has breastmilk!
On the weekend, we were at the shops and the shop assistant stuck her head in the pram and said "oh he must be..what...1 month old?" I replied back with "no, he's 3 months" and she gave me a disapproving look and said in an equally disapproving tone simply "oh he's small"....grr needless to say I didn't buy anything!
My response to the 'is he a good baby' question is 'no, he's awful, but we lost the receipt / the warranty is voided once you take them out of the packaging so we can't return him to the shop'.
Or 'where's your baby today?'. Response: (looking around frantically)... 'oh, sh*t, where did I leave him this time'.
But unfortunately most of the responses I get (even as a babywearing, publicly breastfeeding mum) are overwhelmingly nice so I don't get a chance to use any of my good comebacks.
 Good one!!
Ha HA HA these are funny.
I can't stand the is he a good baby question either. I have a similar comback to suse where we have said, he's alright but we cut the tag off and can't take him back.
or look a little closer you can see the 666 tattoo on his head.
where is your bay? is another quetsion I get asked, I like - left him in the car at the casino, or left him at home 'cause he was getting on my nervs, oh what your not supposed to do that? why didn't anyone tell me!!
but one that really gets my goat is when people are geneuinley surprised when they find out he is still bf.
oh and he looks like his dad, you didn't get a look in did you? I can see little bits of me, like his temper :)
most of the time though i'm too damn slow to get anything funny out, and I find myself saying 10 mins later, oh I should have said this or that
