Hey hun, didn't see this post last week.
you poor love.
A couple things worked for us with this very issue;
giving DD a torch. We kept it in our room and she could have it to walk back to her bed and wait quietly.
leaving a light on outside her room.
having a mattress in our walk in wardrobe for her to sleep on. Often I'd find her there in the morning and not have even noticed she came in.

We found it was habit for her to come in, and while it did pass eventually, I so know how hard it is to manage both.

What about an incentive for him to stay quietly in his bed....a light toy he's only allowed to use for comfort at night? A baby monitor that he can quietly tell you he needs you?
