she only likes one kind of dummy and it's the "wrong" one!

DD is 3 months old. She loves her dummy, gets real soothing from it. But she only really likes one kind of dummy (the first one we gave her).

The one she likes is a "super soft" dummy with a cherry shaped latex teat on it. I've been trying to get her to use silicone dummies instead, since I read they are safer, and I've tried orthodontic dummies too. She just doesn't like them - spits them out after a few sucks.

It's not like it's the only one she's had - we've tried about 4 different shapes and the cupboard is full of unused dummies. She clearly prefers those ones. I'm not sure whether to worry or whether to just go out and buy more of these ones online.

How bad is it if we stick with the latex, not-orthodontic ones?

Has anyone managed to teach their baby to like a different kind of dummy to the one they had at first?

I wouldn't worry about it - If she likes that sort, so long as you replace it when it need replacing, just be thankful that she will take a dummy at all.

The latex cherry ones are fine. They are what the SCN in the hospital gave to Leah. They just arent as nice to look at. With DD1 we only used cheap dummies, because that's what she liked, DD2 used the most expensive yet pretty ones. She was a NUK fan for bottles and dummies. DD3 doesnt particularly like her dummy but if she has it it is a cheapie. She much prefers her fingers though.

hehe Ashton only likes Happy Baby dummies, and my older 2 were the same. But I didn't mind because they are the easiest to find and the cheapest ones which adds up when you loose them all the time

Brendan doesnt care, dummy is a dummy

Tristan isnt a huge fan of them, nor does he really need one. I only use one to comfort him while I get ready for his feed.

I thought I was alone. My son will only take the Avent dummies. It all started with the free sample in the Avent Microwave bottle steriliser. Now $5 a pop.
My daughter was a bit more economical, because she loved Happy Baby ones.

My DS only like the cherry ones too (Tommee Tipee)- once he got hold of those, there was no going back. I think once they get the feel of that big cherry in their mouth, the smaller ones are just boring!
