Hi ladies- a little help please.
My 10.5mo DD has just officially started walking unassisted.
What sort of shoes (if any) should she be wearing?
She has the soft soled shoes, but when is it appropriate for hard soled shoes?

I heard you should wait a couple of weeks once they start walking before buying shoes, I don't know the reason behind it though.

From what i know It's best to keep their feet bare whenever possible until around two. Of course that isn't practical when you're out and about so soft soled shoes are a great option. their feet take quite along time to develop arches and strengthen the ligaments. Hard soled shoes force their feet into an unnatural position and can cause issues if introduced too early. I find tippy toey joeys great and also iwalk/bobux, cos the do have rubber on the sole which makes them suitable for outdoors, but they're still very flexible. They're also made from leather which is another plus.

Mind you I find that a lot of shoe shop salespeople will tell you a different story, but from what I've read and talking to my mchn it seems the soft soles are best for as long as you can find ones that fit.

No shoes for as long as possible. They tend to also find them more difficult to walk and navigate ups and downs etc in them.

When you do get shoes though start with the soft, you'll find they only go up to certain sizes though, then change to hard. So once they grow out of them you don't really have a choice. If possible its best to spend a little extra money and get shoes fitted for them. It makes a huge difference.

DD2 has the tinest feet ever, she is 2 1/2 and barely in a size 5, some even won't fit her and she needs a 4. She has hips issues though and my gp recommended a fitted pair of shoes with high supports to help turn her feet out, as her hip rotation make her tend to turn in.

i kept my "learning to walk bub" in bare feet when the weather allowed, and when inside, but in soft soled shoes when it was cold and when outside.

I kept her in soft soled shoes until she was a VERY confident walker and could run very confidently too.

then i went to the two part soled shoes

then i went to solid soles (when we ran out of the sizing in the two part sole shoes e.g size 6)

Now she is 4, and we only have the soft soled shoes for inside wear (like slippers).

We go barefoot as much as possible, but Pie had soft soled shoes until she was around 14 months. Even now she rarely wears her hard soled shoes.

I agree with the PP.

With A we just had soft soled shoes but she would walk outside in nice weather bare foot, most places like target etc have the 'pre-walkers' which are quite soft and although they do wear out on concrete a bit they are probably the softest you will get before going to soft rubber soles.

A had the cutest pair of converse runners DP's cousin bought, very soft soles and ohhh so cute.. she loved them BRIGHT PINK.. i still have them for Z, might put them on her today if they fit

Thanks ladies, we have the cutest pair of soft soled adidas shoes..... But didn't know if now that she is walking properly, I should get her some "proper shoes"
Does anyone know where to get the iwalk shoes from?

google BOBUX and then click on SUPPLIERS/RETAILERS etc
some online baby shops sell them too

She probably won't like the hard-soled ones for a wihle either - they're much harder to walk in I think.

I had a cheap pair of pre walkers from Target for around the yard because it was winter when DD started walking. For out and about I got hard soled shoes because outside the playgroup fence delightful people like breaking glass bottles I went with the Betts airwalk ones because they are leather, very light and have arch support. They are also very foot friendly with the innersole. Saying that though, I rarely put shoes on her unless we are going out. At home she is barefoot 99% of the time

Most specialty baby shops or kids shoes shops have iwalks. Otherwise you could try myers or djs.
